Don't do it. You say you'll never have a chunk of cash to fix up the house. Where are you going to get a chunk of cash later on to replace the GTO? They will NEVER be cheap tp buy again and they are only getting rarer by the day.

Bull, I waited 30 some years to get another GTO. Could never afford one until last year. My wife has no use for it but hey.... TS. It looks to me like you made up your mind, so go for it and sell it.

I miss my basic, nothing-special 79 Camaro because it was a fun car (ok, I did put a 454 in it, but still). I'd imagine selling something really rare would only make things far worse when you can't buy another. The new song by Metallica comes to mind "The day that never comes.."

I don't know your financial situation, but I will say that I couldnt possibly think of a worse market to try and sell a car in. Especailly a car that most people could do without.

I suppose one could make the argument that if the economy continues it's downward trend any non-essential assets may lose value. As far as getting rarer, I'm sure there will be more registered vintage GTO's a year from now than today. But....once you start thinking about selling, you can probably come up with a bunch of reasons why you SHOULD sell. Price of gas, more garage space, etc. As soon as the car leaves the driveway, you start to think of all the reasons why you SHOULD NOT have sold.

I can say from personal experience DON'T SELL your GTO! In 1974 I bought a 62 Super Duty Catalina with 12,000 on it for $2,000. I sold it in 1985 for $13,000 to do home improvements and I regretted it almost immediately. The house is long sold and there has been sevral other homes since but I will never be able to get my Super Duty back. I've since bought another 62 Catalina and added a 4SPD, posi, etc. etc but it's not the same. The Super Duty is alive and well and is owned by a very nice person here in Calif but I still miss that car after 23 years.
