I voted steel wheels/poverty caps as a 'stock' choice.

There are too many 17" & 18" wheels I would pick as my favorite choice.

Im surprised Bart hasnt posted a pic of those 17" steel wheels with the caps. If money were no object, Id have those on mine in a second.

That's one of the things that makes the Rally II wheels so attractive. It's not too difficult to make 'em look really nice in your home garage. Some time spent sanding or with a blaster along with some paint materials really brings out the beauty in these wheels.

You can run them without trim rings 'ala Judge' too if you like a more simple look, or just to keep from having your trim rings stolen on a daily driver.

They can also look good painted in non-factory colors (I'm sorry that my examples aren't mounted on '66-'67 A-body cars).

Here's a set of 15X7s painted with bright silver and gloss black acrylic enamel with no trim rings, 235/60 tires.





Another set of 15X7s with no trim rings (or caps), painted in a duller silver and gunmetal gray (I mixed some black with the silver) acrylic enamel, 245/60 & 275/60 tires:





Okay, and finally a plain-steel wheel built in 17X8" size with a 235/45 tire. Shown here with and without the poverty cap, it's both subtle and a little outrageous all at the same time. Just one of these wheels (unpainted) costs about the same as a whole set of 4 good used Rally IIs that need restoration so they're not nearly as budget-friendly. Very heavy at 37# bare compared to a 15X7 Rally II at 25#:

You can get 17X7, 17X8 & 17X9 steel wheels from Wheel Vintiques (14 Series Gennie, bare) for right around $200 to $240 each, it looks like their prices just jumped by $20 per wheel for 2009.

Don't forget to add another $200 if you want 4 new reproduction poverty caps, originals in really good shape go for about the same price or even more depending on condition.

Just think about how many of these caps were tossed in the nearest trash can when someone put a new set of Cragar Super Sports on their GTO or Lemans back in the day.

Torq Thrust Ds or Cragars are my choice. But seeing my car came with the Cragars, I'll stay with them... they've grown on me and I can't see replacing them now. 15x8s on the rear and 14x6s on the front.
