6d7gto - Buy it and don't tell your wife. Usually works for me.

That IS one heck of a deal.

Seller is a PY-er, and a stand-up guy.

Default The 48-hour rule or "you had your chance"

This rule was established on March 5, 2002 and is as follows: As a reward for a fellow sneaking new and inexpensive cylinders into the Crisis Center and also escaping any female wrath that might accrue from said purchase, the fellow may make up any story he wishes after 48 hours regarding the acquisition. In other words, she gets 48 hours to notice the purchase and complain. If she misses her window, you are home free.

“This old thing,’’ you might say, when, after a week, she finally does notice, “that thing has been here since July.’’

Chief, You probably have it priced too cheap, making some potential buyers leary. Obviously nobody on here needs it because we know it has to be legit. It would have to be a mighty early judge carb, is the only reason I can see that it hasn't been snapped up yet.
The 8270/8273's that I have seen or own didn't have a date stamp but actually had the date writen on the bowl in black magic marker...which this one probably did at one time.

If I didn't already have 2 spare '69 auto carbs and another spare '71 auto carb, just sitting I would buy it just to have. But if you don't get a decent offer close to what your asking contact me, this is good stuff! DW

Dr D,

I priced this second auction after the first one didn't break the $600 level. The best offer so far is $800 so I'll let you know if it doesn't sell.

Also, I think you are correct about the date being marked on and not originally stamped.

Regards, Kevin

My 28273 is date stamped, and it is my understanding that it depends on the stamping style that was being used at the time. Mine is dated in December 1968 (the 344th day of the year if I remember correctly and I have heard of another one made the same day). My stamping drops the "70" and it is Figure 4 in this chart.

All Quadrajets were supposed to get dated as was most manufactured parts. Obviously some mistakes were made because workers are only human. Many parts slipped through without proper stamping. No big deal at the time, but now collectibles are judged according to the norm... sometimes unjustly. In my opinion, if Chief's 8270 was dated onto the main bowl like BetWinner's, it would probably go for thousands. I have a 7040205 that's missing the 70 which will probably lessen it's value simply because people will be leery of it.

Clearly too late for a RA II car, most likely one of the first carbs produced for a III or IV.

Very good deal, was it picked up by one of the Western NY boys?
