Default Subframe Connectors

My dad always complained that his firebirds back in the day would wheel hop pretty bad...so since i'm building my car to match his i'm gonna put subframe connectors on..

Anybody got any good pics of their subframe connectors? Good/bad experiences? I'd like to see a set on a convertible if anyone has them...Thanks!

69 Vert,
I think subframe connectors are always a good idea. Helps to stiffen the car.
As far as wheel hop though, I don't think that the connectors are going to prevent the wheel hop 100%.
Best thing for that issue is some type of traction bar. They keep the rear from twisting.
IMO, the best on the market are Caltracs. www.calvertracing.com
However, a set of old school traction bars that also replace the bottom shock plate will cure the wheel hop issue.

Hope that helps some,

`joe

Do the connectors first because it may help with the wheel hop, but it will also prevent permanently twisting the body out of shape, and it will help with handling as well. If you still have the wheel hop, you can then try Caltracs or Slide-a-links. Before putting in any subframe connectors, replace all the body mounts with new solid mounts.

thanks for the feedback, i am definitely replacing all of the body mounts....i've started from the bottom up on my slow but sure restoration...all new suspension/brakes/body mounts etc....i think i'm gonna try the connectors first and if wheel hop is still bad, i will definitely put traction bars on...this has got to be a burnout machine and do not want to waste drive shafts/rear ends in the proces...

Rocky Rotella (a board member here, he writes for HPP and Hemmings) did an excellent tech write up in HPP a few years back - look for it in the search engine.

Good luck! That's next on my list...

Connectors will help stiffen the frame, but not stop wheel hop.

x2 on the global west connectors. they weld in the back and bolt to the frame so you can still remove the frame later if you need to. i have them on both cars. not a squeak to be heard.
