I was never a "Mustang" guy, but I found myself looking at '67-68 Mustangs lately. I couldn't own one with a Ford motor, though. Mine would have an LSx or a BBC.

I find it a sin to put a Chevy motor in a Buick/Olds/Pontiac, but I find it perfectly acceptable to put a Chevy motor in a Ford product. I'd put a Chrysler motor in it if I had to.

I have to admit to an admiration for the '65/'66 Fastback GT...but I could never be satisfied with owning one myself as long as I knew I could sell it and buy a nice '67/'68 Firebird 400 or early '70s TA or something/anything like that.

I love those fastbacks too - that's the only other 'stang I'd ever own. I think...make that I know...the Pontiacs of the same period were better engineered.

But the Boss was a factory race car, too bad Pontiac had given up on racing. Stupid Corporate Edict...

If I could afford it, I'd have a 68 Shelby Mustang 428 CJ 4 speed in Yellow. Or I'd have a 68 Shelby Mustang 302 convertable 4 speed in Red. But seeing I didn't and don't expect to win with Power Ball, I don't imagine I'll ever have either one. Those are the only 2 other classic muscle cars I'd have along with my GTO.

I've owned 2 other Ford products, other than the 97 Taurus wagon I'm driving now. 89 302ci Crown Vic with dual front electric seats and the Limo rear window. That car got 28 mpg on a trip and was a pleasure to drive. And a 94 Lincoln Towncar/Executive that got 25 mpg on a trip. That too was a pleasure to drive and one I miss today. The 02 Focus wagon was an uncomfortable POC, but it got great gas mileage.

Let's face it, on a '66 or '67 they all look good! I have two sets of Torq Thrust wheels for my car, both 15". I like them both, but I do get different opinions from others!

The 15" Torq Thrust's I put on my LeMans rubbed, so I had to put them on the Firebird. Did you go with custom backspacing? I had 245 60 15 out back...

Blu, those Torq Thrust Ds on the rear in your last picture look great on the car. I like those better than the all chrome Torqs. Just my .

Agree here. The "D"s give the car a nice lift.

I don't mix and match. It either runs the chromes or the D's. Here are a couple of photos where you can see both the front and rear. My son prefers the chrome, while older guys (like me) seem to prefer the D's. Seem to be a little more with the era. Tires are the same size all round P215 65R 15.

With that color, I like the chrome better. Either way Tyrol Blue is a great color!! Nice car!

Actually this one is Montreaux Blue. Back in 1967 I did have a Tyrol Blue with White top and parchment interior LeMans. Couldn't afford a GTO then (college). This one is the original color scheme (not original paint though), Montreaux Blue with black interior. Thanks for the compliment.

I gotta agree with Paul and your son. The Cragars look better with the Montreaux Blue. They give the car a look of power and say "come get me". The Torqs still look good but they'd give better contrast to a darker color. Either way hang on to both. You can switch them out and make people think you've got 2 GTOs of the same color. LOL

BTW... I saved both pictures for reference, and will print them out for my collection. If that's ok with you.

Damn!! I went back and fourth on that one. I couldn't decide if it was Montreaux Blue or Tyrol Blue. So I just guessed. Still nice color.

Be my guest on the pictures. Just FYI, the chromes are Torq Thrust II's not Cragers. I like Cragers too, but TT's are just easier to deal with. No slots!

Yeah, I have a buddy that has a '66 442 with Cragers and everytime he has his tires rotated or changed, he has problems with the service guys getting the wheels back on correctly!

Paul I like the upgrades that you put on your LeMans. I really enjoyed the one I had back in '67. I often wished I still had it. It's the car we brought our first two kids home from the hospital in, but when the third one came along, it was replaced by a station wagon Great kids, lousy car.

Is the color on your car a factory color for '66. I don't recall it, but I like it.

Its factory for 65 and 66. Its called Blue Charcoal. Not many of them around for some reason. A lot of people like it today but maybe they didnt in 1966??

I got my 67 in 1968 and it had the full size wheel covers. Shortly after, I bought a used set of ET gray five spoke mags. They are still on it today. What do you thinmk?

Shifty, yer ETs look pretty dam good too.

I've had no problems with the old style Cragars on my GTO. They don't loosen up and I've had them off a few times. No problem getting them back on either.
