Default LCD TV's.....How do you tune the color??

I was at a friends house last night and she bought a new LCD TV. The color is off and as much as we played with the colors, we couldn't get the picture right. Is there some sort of "formula"??

The biggest problem is that the dark pictures look to dark and things like dark colored hair blend in too much. I couldn't seem to make a difference no matter what I did. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Most TV's need a break in of a few hours. Normally they are WAY too bright out of the box. Every brand is different with the initial settings and names they call things.

After that, adjust the color temp and picture modes to Low and Natural. If that doesn't help check the Contrast and lower it to taste.

If things are still not where you want them, return the TV for another, if still within the return policy.

Paul, I agree with Dave, but if that does not work, try this before returning:

Thats a whole lot of info. Thanks!! That gives you a good education on just what the adjustments will do for your picture and just what they when used as a combonation.

Ill try it tonight.

Sitting too close to the larger LCD's will make the picture look bad.
Not sure if that's your case or not.

In the December 2008 issue of Popular Mechanics there is an article on adjusting TVs.
If it is a off color issue, most brands have color adjustments in the service menu.

Go to avsfourm.com and search for your TV. Great source of info. Tuning takes in many different variables such as how much light is in the room....is it natural light or from light bulbs.....etc., etc.

Don't get an LCD tv that's too big for the room's size. A friend has a 50" in a small living room and after watching it I was plumb tuckered out. Your eyes are constantly moving to see what's going on.

We bought a 32" Vizio LCD for our 12x14 livingroom and it seems to be about right. No eye strain, you don't have your eyes roving all over the screen to see what's happening.

Best thing is no glare with the LCD tv of any size., just like the computer LCD monitors. IMO Plasmas are a PITA to watch with all the reflections and glare.

I had to update this thread.

Over the weekend, I went to the site that Ron suggested and searched the TV that we had. There was a post from someone who had the same model and made changes to the colors including some custom changes and the picture along with BluRay is now stunning.

While at Best Buy this weekend, I asked about tuning the TV's color. They said they would be happy to come out for $299 and make the adjustments. What??

Thanks for all the help guys. That TV is a pleasure to watch.
