Are the SD exhaust manifolds worth any more or less than the HO ones? There is a set here locally I might be picking up - 72 dated castings.

The letters "SD" double the value of anything.............

the original manifolds are good for display or low mile driving. be careful, some of the repops also had correct date codes. for a driven SD, the latest reproductions are the best way to go. i haven't seen original ones go for much more than the reproductions price-wise.

Correct the originals aren't worth anything more due to they will crack its just a matter of when. There good for NON-Driven Cars period, and no one here on this forum has that kind a car, right Craig ?
One of my originals had falling off a shelf and broke one of the ends in the casting so if the date codes are correct I might what to purchase if the price is right ? PM me the date code you have if interested in turning! |

I thought the repops had the casting numbers in the wrong spot - and couldn't be bought with casting dates.
Should there be an F cast above or below the date as well?

Brew, you gotta drive em.....
I finally broke down and got a clutch, it is sitting under my desk at work. Now I need to return to my youth and put it in. Maybe I could have a clutch instalation party.....What are you doing the last weekend in July? |

I'd be happy to come to a clutch party and I can even bring my white plastic stool that has those cups holders built into the top. Yeah, that sounds like a plan for sure!
You know, I'll have to drive a Trans Am over though and I hope that's ok ? Ahhhhh, you wouldn't mind a couple little black marks out in front of the house, would you ?

the driver's side on mine was fine, heavily pitted, the passenger side had cracks, repairs, more cracks and a big hole off the cracks when i got it.

Yeah, it seems that the passenger side cracked in the middle and that's where you'll find most repairs. I have not seen a driver side cracked myself except for the one I have from my manual car that had falling onto the floor before I owned it. That's the damaged one that I'd like to replace someday, even if I dont put it on the car it would be nice to have.

It's partly an optical illusion, and partly that the rear tires are slightly wider than the fronts. When that pic was shot - during the HPP shootout at Texas Motorplex - I had 27x10 MT ET Street tires on the rear, along with P255/60 front tires. Exact same height, but slightly wider. By the way, keep on digressing - great analogy.

Really down that low huh? I have not seen that but it doesnt surprise me either.
The new ones are stronger even if they dont look perfect, they dont crack. |

Good news . . .
Gary and I are finishing up the details on my purchase of his '74 SD T/A. Called Thomas Sunday Transportation this morning and they are tentatively picking the car up for me by the end of the week. If all works out and TST indeed picks it up as planned, I'll be a proud SD owner within a week. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!
