Jeff: Check back late tonight. I am sitting in the airport on the way out of town and am having some problems uploading some pictures of a potential arrangement for the console you have. By using a creative new part to your existing console you may be able to keep your 8-track mounted and have the best of both worlds. I will try to upload these pictures when I get to the hotel.

First...notime..console I have is for automatic not manual.

Jeff...see what you think about this adapter. It follows the contour and keeps the normally vertical section to the dash level to the floor. And, you can still mount a gauge in the pod mount. This should allow enough of clearance for your 8-track or anything someone would mount under the dash.

You can not see the edge which would normally be up against the dash and from both the driver's and passenger's viewpoint, it looks finished.

From the floor to top of the console that would be under the dash it is 7- 1/2 inches high. I don't have my car available locally to measure the standard normal arrangement height...you know what I mean. See pics which follow:

Zig that's a hell of an idea!

I'm in no hurry. I'll probably do the console next winter. But I'm going to install the buckets this winter..

I was just thinking, why do I have to have a plastic console. I could have my cabinet buddy make one out of wood and make inserts to match the dash, 8 track face (it comes out) and rear deck shelf...

Ziggy, that looks great. How does the vacuum gauge sit?

I was concerned about the vacuum pod view too. Interesting enough, the pod sits at the correct angle for the driver with this approach. When I get back in town, I will post another picture.

Incidentally, the wooden adapter is for sale. How much? I don't know, make an offer through a PM if interested.

Well I got the buckets in and the shifter will fit just fine without the console. I'm going to make a shifter cover out of aluminum or wood, I may carpet it.. I wish I could find a shifter cover like in the ad. They are more rare then the shifter.

I'm working on converting the shifter to cable...

Looks good! It shouldn't be too hard to build a cover for the base. I'd get a piece of vinyl to match the seats and cover it with that.
