Hello again, Seeking advice again,

I bought a half started GTO clone convertible 68, and im finishing up what didnt make it correct. The major stuff the previous owner did. All i have left is the side from emblems, GTO trunk emblem and the front door interior emblems.

Since there are no exisiting holes, i have to drill. A little nervous doing it especially getting them right and attaching them. Not sure exactly where to attach them. Did several searches but im still weary.

Also since ill hit bare metal, whats the best way for rust prevention? Paint, jellys? etc?

Any advice?

i am doing that now.
Looks like there was not set measurement for the gap between edge of the trunk lid and the outer edge of the badge.
The same i would say for the height.
When you look at the picture on GTO sites they seem to move around. i will be painting and kill rusting holes from behind.
The length of the stem on the badge must come into play - they are attached by a nut ( rubber coated ) if i am correct.

Why not trim the pegs off and stick them on as with modern cars, someone got the S on my lemans slightly off but it has holes, if i ever paint that area they will get stuck back on so that they can be adjusted. Just my 2 cents worth, i was nervous as hell putting on the second side mirror for left hand rego in SA.

Remember...all aftermarket emblems may not have the same peg spacing. Buy the emblems, stick some tape on the mount area and press the emblem pegs into the tape. It will leave a mark for the drill holes. Drill holes and pull tape. No at least the new pegs will line up perfectly.

Here's what I've done in the past

1--> Start with a thin piece of cardboard larger than your emblem
2--> Push emblem posts through cardboard and slide cardboard so that the back of emblem rests on the cardboard
3--> Take a pen, sharpie or a pencil and trace around the emblem on the cardboard
4--> Remove emblem from cardboard and cut out the shape on the cardboard with a pair of scissors. Now you have a template (with holes).
5--> Place template in the desired location and mark your holes for drilling

I second the 2-side automotive tape idea, I put a chevelle emblem on the trunk of my 70 using that stuff, did not have to drill and the thing is NOT going anywhere. You can't tell its been taped, either.

My opinion is drill the holes. If the GTO had holes, it should have holes. Emblem pegs shlould not have to be snapped off to get the emblem to lay flat. Why ruin emblems and have a possibilty of an emblem falling off. It can happen.
