Ron, it was great to see your car in person. Congrats on getting it done and doing such a beautiful job on it. To anyone that didn't go to the convention and see it in person I can tell you the pictures look great but still don't do it justice.

Well, I guess it's about time I update this thread. Wow, what an awesome couple of months it's been since I finished the car. The car made it's debut at the GTOAA/POCI co-vention.

I decided to show the car outside in a tent rather than inside the arena. This first picture shows what the tent looked like Wednesday afternoon after I got the car unloaded and ready to show. As many of you probably heard, there was a wicked storm that blew through Dayton Wednesday night, 7/10. My car was in one of the tents that fell. Fortunately, there was very little damage . The tent went up and over my car and landed on the row of cars in front of it. This picture shows us starting to assess the damage and uncover the cars under the tent. This was the cars first night out of my shop. Not a great way to start out.

After that fiasco, I put my car in one of the still standing tents for the night after seeing the weather forecast was going to be great. Thursday and Friday were the points judging days for GTOAA and POCI. I was pretty nervous as I had never had a car points judged before, but it went well. Saturday morning brought the highlight of the show for me. The previous owner, who stored the car in pieces for 20 years, came to see it. She brought me copies of some polaroids from the early 80's when she helped take it apart. She was pretty tickled to sit in it and hear it running. I haven't taken her for a drive in it yet, but I imagine that will happen sometime.

I was able to meet several members here and see their beautiful cars, notably, my new dear friend, Bill Ryder. What a wonderful person. I also met Dick Boneske and gtoron. Great guys with outstanding 64's. And I can't forget Brody, who I think will be putting together his own outstanding '64 soon.

After Dayton, I didn't drive the car, Norwalk was coming soon, so I didn't want to risk anything. I trailered it up to Norwalk and showed it Saturday and Sunday with 4 miles on it. Norwalk remains the premier Pontiac event, dwarfing the co-vention year after year. Finally, with Norwalk over, it was time to start putting some miles on the car. I installed an NOS tripower throttle cable that I found here on PY (Thanks chrisp!) and that fixed my throttle driveability issues. Super smooth now. I've taken the car to several local shows and cruise-in's this month, and I've now got over 250 miles on the car. It runs and drives super. Just like a new car. And the five speed is absolutely awesome. 55 in fifth is about 1700rpm's. It feels like it would just cruise all day long. I'll try to keep the miles down this season, as I want the car to still be pretty fresh for all the 50th anniversary celebrations going on next year. Having finished this car, I'm now able to keep my convertible in the shop along side it now. Life's good.

Hi Ron, It was surely good times, EXCEPT for the storm!! But the weather was more than perfect after the storm.
I sure hope you go to Wichata next year, but I'm pretty sure you said Pitts.. Personally, I've been looking forward to the 50th for years, thinking of awesome places to gather; BAL., Pont., KS., Free. (WOW, that would be a trip). PITT. never came across my mind!@!!!! Don't know how much thought went into that decision.
Anywho, I sure hope a lot of "64's show up!!! And Ron, I hope you are one of them. POCI will treat you good!!! Always looking for very knowledgeable judges!!! "Bill"!
Sure glad the 3x2 throttle cable worked out for you. Of course, being NOS, GTOAA will probably dock you for it!!!!!

Haha haha, I remember hearing about that, being docked for a universal throttle cable because it had three holes. Was that you or Dick? I also heard about the guy being told his quarter emblems were wrong cause they were spaced differently. In some ways I'm glad I showed it in modified so I didn't have to hear that stuff, but I'm tempted sometimes to throw it in Stock just to see how many things they catch. Put a three speed knob on it and go.

The car got Gold in GTOAA Concours Modified and POCI Points Judged Modified. At Norwalk it took first in 64-65 Street Modified. The car's been doing really well, it's fun to show.

Thanks, Ron. I re-subscribed to HPP in the hopes of getting the article, but they started my subscription with the next issue. Your car looks great. I've been thinking about using redlines on the stock steel wheels, also. How did you settle on the size? I'm wanting a little wider look than what came from the factory, and yours has a good stance.

Pecosbill, the tires are Diamondback Classics on Firestone Indy 500 cores. 225/70R-14. They fit nicely on the 14x6 wheels. If your wheels are 14x5, the 225 may be a little too wide. You'd probably be better off with a 215 or 205 width. On my car the 225's fill the front out nicely. The rear, with the narrow 64 rear axle looks like it needs more width to me. The rake on my car is achieved by using 1-1/2" taller rear springs custom made. The fronts, incorrectly identified in the article as shorter, are actually stock. The 1-1/2" rear lift changes the stock 3/4" higher front rake to a 3/4" higher rear rake. I like the old school raised rear rake.
