I am looking for a high quality drive shaft for a 600 hp/ 600 ft trq. motor. Its a 1967 firebird with a TKO 5 speed and GM 12 bolt. Anyone have a suggestion where to buy one and if I should buy aluminum or steel?

Where are you located?
Inland Empire in CA makes good ones. I am running a 3.5" aluminum 1350 yokes. Supposed to handle over 1000 ft lbs and HP.

I have heard alot of good things about Denny's. As far as aluminum or steel what will your budget allow and what are you doing with the car. Denny's usally has a 4-6 week wait. You may also contact some local chassis builders and see if there is a local driveshaft shop thay have good things to say about.

I've used Strange for a few chromolly shafts. They are reasonably priced and quick turnaround. About a week if I remember right.

I've used Denny's and PST. Both worked well. Denny's has the better customer service but PST is quicker. If you can find the right size, the used 4" steel NASCAR driveshafts are pretty affordable at $75.

I called Denny's and they had like a 6-8 week backlog (now, they are probably the greatest guys in the world, but the impression I got was "we're the best and are in demand and you'll have to wait some....).


Anyway, Driveshaft specialists had one to me in like 2 weeks.

Denny's is the place. I live just 15 miles away from them, they are great people. They treat you right, yes they have a backlog, but that tells ya something! They're the best and treat ya right! They stand behind there driveshafts quality, no questions asked!

Find a good truck driveshaft place (one that can build what YOU want). I got mine for $250 out the door with HD U-joints, and balanced a few years ago from a local place. They told me if I break it to bring it back, and they will make another. No problems yet, and they told me it should be good to around 900 HP.

Denny's told me 6-8 weeks when I called them 2 years ago. Guys, Were talking about driveshafts here! My opinion for what it's worth, is that they are grossly understaffed to consistently be that far out. As far as them being the best, that seems to be self proclaimed. I don't know about any failures with application specific driveshafts from any of the other well known driveshaft suppliers, again we are talking about driveshafts here, not rocket science. JMO

I guess I'm just a little bias to the hometown people. But Denny's are good people and make a great shaft. All said a well built driveshaft that is properly spec'd is all you will need.
