Default Any ford diesel mechanics here?

My neighbor and I were bleeding the brakes on his 91 f 250 ford diesel truck this weekend. And after a couple of master cylinder and bleeding for what seemed like forever the pedal was nice and firm. However as soon as you start the engine the pedal slowly drifts to the floor, very confusing to both him and I. He covered all his bases well, and is a good wrench but this has got us both stumped. Any one have any ideas as to what cause this? Any ideas are appriciated.

Do you mean the booster, like where the two halves go together? I thought maybe the vacuum line was plugged but everything is clear there.

Does this truck have a vacuum booster or hydraulic brake booster?

Most I've been around have the Hydro system. I have seen a few with the Hydraulic.

IF the pedal's drifting down is this with foot pressure on it or on it's own?

Why were you bleeding the brakes in the first place?? What parts have been changed?? Does this truck have ABS?? Like Mike said, vacume or hudraulic booster?? I had one unit come in that the customer did his own brakes. He swapped the rear calipers. Bleeders were on the bottom. Couldnt get the air out till the calipers were put back on the correct sides.

This is a vacuum booster for sure, it does not have ABS, the pedal goes to the floor with foot pressure on it. The brakes are being bled because of two reasons, the master cylinder was leaking slightly and the rear wheel cylinder bleeder broke off thus having to change it. The first master cylinder was a rebuilt one and was bench bled. After trying blled them again for a while we figured that the mastrer was rebuilt wrong or something so we went back and got a brand new one to no avail. The only parts that have been changed were the master, front pads and the LR wheel cylinder. Thanks for the replies guys.

Adjust the rear brakes up so they're just touching the drums when you side them over the shoes.

Then rebleed the rear brakes. Start a t the RR then when it's moving solid fluid move to the RR. Then the RF and move to the lf.

It sounds like one of two things, either a leak in the system, possibly behind the fuel tank Or an air pocket still trapped in the system.
