Need to see how the front bumper goes on in terms of all of the brackets from the bumper to the core support. Converting an 80 to an early nose (please no abuse form the purists!

Lifted this image from njsteve's resto thread. Hope it helps. The bumper mainly mounts via the bumper brackets to the frame. You would have to fab up some brackets to mount it to the core support.

You can find manuals on ebay. They are on disc and run about $35. I've been thinking about picking one up for my 72 T/A. Also be aware that while the front bumper is the same 70-73, they changed some of the support structure I believe in 73....so 73 may be somewhat different. Good luck!

It's actually a 70 nose with a 76 hood. That hood was a one year only deal and made of steel.

cliffhanger, or should I call you Eagle-eye? I bought the spoiler about 20 years ago from one of those two page ads in an old car mag. I used to see it in the ad for years and finally decided to buy one. It is fiberglass and wraps around to the wheel well openings on each side.

Kind of completes the later Formula two tone scheme with the black on the bottom.

Phil - I'm glad to see that someone else has a 76 formula hood on there early 70's car, mine is also a 73. I did it because none of the 4 standard formula hoods I bought would fit right, they all had a slight warp in them. Arizona is great for sheet metal but, fiberglass in the Arizona sun doesnt hold up well. I also like the fact that it is an all-metal hood and you can lean on those vents at the back of the hood when waxing it without breaking them. The other thing I did to the hood was to add the 400 emblems to the side of the scoops just like the 69 Formula hoods had as, I thought it needed a little jewerly to set it of. I also have three differnt sets of scoop inserts which allows me to change them as my mood changes. One set is body color(red), one set is black and the other was going to be chromed but, pot metal needs to be done by a specialist. I found out that they actully look almost chromed after cleaning one set up and then putting it on my polishing wheel.

Norm, I agree with you about the 70-75 Formula hoods. They were notorious for fitment and quality issues. Also, I liked the scoops going to the front BUT I didn't like the side profile of those earlier hoods. The scoops looked goofy from the side, like they were accidently put too far forward. Maybe I just got accustomed to so many other Pontiacs having the scoops in the center of the hood, who knows.

The 76 hood fits perfectly and is rock solid. It's heavier of course like a stock steel hood but that is a small price to pay in my book. Interesting about your interchangeable scoop idea. I never considered that idea. I have thought of picking up a spare hood though in case mine ever gets damaged. Probably not a bad idea for you as well.

BTW, I cannot wait to see cliffhangers "Hurst Firebird" next year. I expect some nice high resolution pics of that beauty to be posted here!!!

I've got a 70 with a 73 Nose that last owner simply bolted on to the right and left hand sides without bolting the bottom or center or aligning anything.

I am considering looking for a different nose to get a better fit, or is it easier to get it to work right than it looks? I have both brackets (72 & 73) for the middle.

If someone has a better nose, let me know.

I would pull the 73 nose and sell it to someone who needs that heavy, one year nose for a restoration or something, and put a 70-72 nose on it. You will be happier in the end.
