I liked my 79 Formual with the 301. Ran great and whooped a few 79 302 Fords back then. And it wasn't the gas hog the 6.6s were.

MOST were likely ordered when the 400/4 speed combo became unavailable. (all sold)

Has anybody else out there actually DRIVEN a 79 301 4 speed?

I'd like to see BOTH 79 400 & 301 (stock) 4 speed T/A's in a 1/4 mile race.

Bet it would be close!

Up until a few years ago, everybody turned their noses up at 75 & newer "smog" 400's (incuding W72's)

Looking back to the late 60's,MOST early Corvettes with fuel injection got converted to carburetors & the F/I units got JUNKED. Now they are the MOST valuable/desireable smallblocks.

I think the 301 4 speeds & Turbo T/A's WILL appreciate in value/popularity. (they are just not "ripe" yet)
I'd snap one up If only to......
"Go on long drives to the beach with my wife and save a little gas money"
I used to scoff at the idea of owning a Fully Loaded a 301 Turbo T/A,
But now it seems like a good idea for a fun stylish long trip car.
I think the demand will pick up a bit in the future.

(A worked 455 4 speed with no A/C really gets old with my wife
when we take it on trips longer than 75 miles.)

I'd figure any real nice cheap 2ng gen T/A is worth at least $3,000-$5,000
nowdays.

Good Luck with it if you get it
