Hi all!
I was on my way home from the Woodward Dream Cruise when all of a sudden I heard a terrible noise. Long story made short, the distributor shaft froze causing my distributor to spin, tearing up my wiring harness, coil and heater hose. Now that I need to replace the distributor, I am wondering what my best option is. Should I replace it with an original distributor (point or pointless), an electronic type distributor, HEI or other type. I would prefer to keep the engine as close to original looking as I can but I realize I may need to change the looks to do this right. Suggestions please! |

I like the original point type distributor. They work fine when set up right. You should set up the advance curve to your application. This is something you should do regardless of the type of distributor you use.
Sure sounds like you had a mess on your hands. Good luck!! |

I plan on replacing the points in my distributor with the M&H module.

Agree with helmerrock. I also like the look of the original over the HEI. Plus you would have no more use for your dwell meter. Sounds like a bad end to a good weekend hope you made it home with out to much trouble.

Thanks for the replys. Everyone I talked with agreed with staying with a factory style distributor. I found a rebuilt number correct distributor that I bought. I will be adding the electronic components and getting rid of the points.
Thanks for your input. Bob |

Points are nice, will hold up for at least 10 years summer cruising, and makes you lift off the cap to lube the cam follower AND the weights and springs once a year.
Rusty weights and springs are BAD.... |

Don't discard your old points if they are still good. That way, you will have a backup in case the elctronic module ever fails. That is what I am going t do.

I agree about keeping the points as a backup. I already have a set of points in the cars emergency kit just in case the electronic ignition (in the bold distributor) were to go out. I appreciate your reply and most of all your concern.
