Hey Guys,
Since I live just north of Boston, shopping at Ames would be ideal for me, since I can drive the 45 min up to NH and not pay shipping costs. I've got a wish list of about $4500 in parts, which includes a disc conversion kit and sheetmetal for almost everything on my 69 goat. the question is this: Does Ames offer any discounts better than the 10% off 1000 if you pay by check? Does anywhere offer a significant discount that would offset shipping costs? The majority of the parts I'm ordering are floors, 1/4s, patches, bumper, rad core support, etc. so there are a ton of big pieces. just wondering if a) ames offers any discounts for large orders, or b) does anyone offer large discounts? thanks Jim |

You might want to check this link to PY DISCOUNT POLICY posted on their online order form ;

This is NOT where you need to ask this question.
For $4500 you should at least call Performance Years and give them a shot at it.

This is kind of like asking FOX news if MSNBC offers discounts on advertising.
![]() Performance Years (our host here) have excellent products & services and I'm sure will be more than interested in talking to you regarding your order. You can contact them @ 1-800-542-7278. BTW - welcome!

I called Ames to make an order and asked if they had a discount and "they do not have anything like that" I was told. Year One offers discounts up to 25% and Classic has a 20% thru Sept. 30th.

It may be a legit question, but not on this board. This board is supplied to us free of charge by Performance Years, a direct competitor of Ames. PY has 99% of the same inventory as Ames; with the vast majority of products coming from the same vendors. Personally my vendor of choice is PY; using Ames as a backup. Oh, and I live about 45 minutes from Year One. The reason they offer 25% discounts and such is that there catalog prices are 25-30% higher than everyone else to start with! And they never have anything in stock. They seemed to be more concerned with resto-mod type cars now. They didn't care enought about GTO's and Pontiacs to show up at our CoVention, the biggest gathering ever.

I just stated what I knew were discounts and what Ames told me. I am sure with the amount of money the OP wants to spend PY would give a discount but I can't say that for sure. In this economy I would be happy to make the sale and do what it took to make it. I would rather make a little profit and a new customer than take it all and find out the same part is cheaper else where and have him upset. i live 45 minutes from YO and they don't have things in stock alot of times but what I save with my discount and on shipping when I know I will be at the monthly car show I order and p/u, but if I need asap I call around.

For that amount of money I would at least call PY and talk to them. Most people would give you at least some sort of discount and maybe they can work out the shipping. At least give them a call and talk.

I agree with the others, give PY a call and ask them.
Also, I'd say that it's worth offering cash on this. If you use a credit card, they have to pay about 2% back to the merchant processing company. If you pay by check, unless they know you, they are taking a bit of a risk

Nothing against py,but Ames stands behind their stuff and gives honest descriptions of what the parts are.Anyone see the thread on the bumper issue on one of py's bumpers and the response from a py guy? 10% from Ames plus your savings on truck freight should tell you where to buy.http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=609000

I got it up the poop chute from Ames when it came time to return a defective item. And they were very insulting to boot.
PY on the other hand has been the primary supplier of parts for my old Pontiacs as well as the wifes. Other than a couple of insignificant order glitches, we have had excellent service and quality for many years.

People on the other end of phone are the variable, if they are paid on commission I sure sure as hell bet they want to make a sale. This can happen anywhere, perhaps these days they all record conversations so the "he said, she said" can ge figured out. For me I've had absolutely no real issues with any of them, although I buy from OPG only if I'm in LA and can see the item I'm buying.

I think we scared the original poster away.
![]() Jim, good luck with the car, wherever you get the parts from!
