'70 TA's value.....?
What's the value of 1970 Trans Am's these days that need TOTAL RESTORATION and DON'T have the original motor? Car is White/blue stripe. Are they anywhere near Judge prices?

Need WAY MORE information to estimate project cars value.
How many other original parts are missing & what is the condition of what is left??? |

All sheet metal is there but probably needs to be replaced. don't recall if it had an interior or not. Talking full blown restoration. I mean restored cars aren't bringing the same money as restored Judges right?

What's a judge???? 1970 Trans ams are FULL of one year ONLY parts. Later parts can be substituted but obviously it detracts from their value. Realistically,I d say you would be MUCH further ahead buying the BEST together (running & driving) 70 T/A you can find. With todays economy, there's some good deals to be had. Oem replacement rear quarters will set you back about $3500./pr & rear tailight panels are made of "unobtainium". The whole back end of these cars is a unibody & rust repair is costly/time consuming. "Correct" Rally wheels in good condition could set you back $2500.00 for a set of decent "cores" A decent dash pad will cost you $500.00 & door armrest panels are just NOT available in good condition. We are still waiting for reproductions on ALOT of parts for these cars & ALL 1970 Trans ams tend to need the SAME parts. |

Figure on spending over $40,000 for a correct frame off resto including NOS parts etc..

And what are restored cars selling for? |

If you're just in it to make a buck, probably time to find a new hobby.
I actually haven't seen a NICE '70 T/A sell in the last 3 or so years... so hard to put a value in today's market. I'd still say similar to a Judge. Basket case project T/As are probably cheaper than a similar Judge, because as 2Many pointed out, the parts to restore a T/A correctly are harder to come by and more expensive.

A friend of mine performed an exhaustive frame-off restoration on a '70 TA (Lucerne Blue not Polar White which = somewhat more desirable). The car took 98 points at a POCI convention a few years ago. He has it priced in the $80k range. I would say prices are comparable with a Judge depending on which one your talking about.

As far as I can tell cars priced above $30 grand aren't moving.

Unfortunately, mine will never be completely stock because the previous owners restored it with incorrect parts then modified it for the track. So I'm missing a lot of original parts, and they are either unavailable or very expensive. I've seen this too and cars worth more than that selling for much less than they're worth. Chris, if you can, buy a car that is in more of a driver condition with as much of the original drive line as possible - you can probably get one in the mid to high teens. If the car you are considering needs everything replaced you are buying tags - what are those worth to you?

I just sold my '70 to a guy for $35k. Full body off nut/bolt resto. Non original driveline. Pretty much broke even on that car. I'm getting a '71 Esprit a guy has already pro-toured the suspension in and making a clone to keep. I'll have twice the car for a third the cost and I won't be thrashing around on a super rare car.
