Repairing a GM power antenna mast
I had a broken cable in one of my '90's era cars and GM claims they don't have a replacement cable for it.
So i started to think........... Below I have a pic of the broken cable end and the repair. The broken end has a metal piece that hooks into the reel of the antenna. i went to the hardware store and found some brass tube, 5/32" dia that fit the nylon cable nicely. stuffed the nylon into it and formed the tube to match the broken one. The cable in the tube keeps it from kinking as you bend. Reassemble and the unit works again. The antenna doesn't extend as far as the original due to the shortened cable, but at least it works. I have fixed hundreds of these antennas when I worked at a GM dealer. The dealer should sell what is called the mast and tube assembly.
 Glad you have yours fixed. I just sold a rare 2nd Gen factory power antenna with all of the correct wiring and relay.

So i started to think...........
How does the cable attach to the mast?
5/32=.15625 You can get nylon or monofilament string trimmer line in .1575 (4.0mm) and .155 sizes. That's getting pretty close to being able to do a complete cable replacement with George's drive end repair. So depending on how the mast end attaches......... May be repairing/replacing these cheap.

On the one I have, the line/cable attaches to the bottom of the top mast section (the smallest dia. one) and is crimped to it. The trick would be to remove the cable end without damaging the crimped metal too much, i.e. leaving enuf to crimp the new cable section.
Another thought I had was to join the broken pieces somehow; the joint would need to take some tension and flex. Threading the ends and joining them with a spring, not unlike a spring from a ball point pen, was one thought I had. George

Without seeing the crimp..............
What about drilling out the old cable and using a tapered punch to straighten the crimp, or maybe just enough heat to R&R old cable with new.
