Just had batt. and alt. checked, turned out good, just bought 12 volt lite, cool thing to have, i does lite up when positive term. is connected and neg. dissconnected with wire to neg, post and then to term. Drs. closed when checking, wondering my horns are not bolted in the front yet and wires dissconnected and just lying out, could this do it??

I didn't spend much time looking, but here's a wiring diagram:
http://www.nikivee.com/documents/53.htm On first glance, power goes from the fuse to the stoplight switch, and the fuse to the dome light. Try unhooking both of those and see what happens. You need to follow the circuit in the diagram and see what makes sense to disconnect.

I am glad the test light worked out for you. Easiest way I know to check em.
A bad bulb can be the culprit by the broken filament grounding to the base on the inside. Good luck. |

An internally grounded lamp would blow the fuse, not cause a draw on the battery. It is a tricky thing to figure out, though.
