1960 389 timing cover?
I'd like to locate a 1960 389 Pontiac timing cover. Looking for the one without the snouts for the heads and without the water cross-over that goes to the intake. Hoping to use it to allow me to use a 1955-1960 intake on a '61-64 longblock.
If you have one you'd be willing to part with, please let me know. Thanks. |

You'll have to use 55-60 heads to make the intake work. The water cross over in the intake is what makes a difference, not the timing cover. Changing to a 1960 cover won't help

you are absolutely right. Luckily, the edelbrock intake that I'll be using was drilled for both water passage locations, I just have to put freeze plugs in the passages that won't be used.

Then why do you want to swap timing covers? Can't you just plug the water hole in the timing cover that goes to the intake?

I could plug the hole in the timing cover, but the whole passage interfers with the intake. I might be able to grind it down on a corner, but that would be kinda clunky looking. I'd rather have it look proper.
These pictures might help you see what I'm talking about. See how the water cross-over portion of the intake hits the water passage of the timing cover? It's just easier all around to use a 1960 cover. Look cleaner, function properly, fit right, etc....

Ah I see what you mean. What year is that timing cover in the photos?
Out of curiosity, what is the motor going in and who makes that intake?
