Default Z-bar question

Was the z-bar coated/plated or just bare? I'm about to send my shifter to Pete Serio for a rebuild and was wondering if the z-bar should be sent as well?

send it along. I had mine done in silver cad. I've seen them black and even yellow painted, but the silver looks most presentable. Not sure what the "experts" say to that. JMHO.Ron

Aren't you an expert? I consider you one. Silver Zinc or grey phosphate is what we see the most often.

The Restoration Guide shows one swivel going one way and the other going in opposite direction. I'm assuming the guide is correct, I was just curious why? Is is so the two cotter pins don't get entangled?

And for those who might be interested in seeing how certain repop stuff compares to original, check out the difference in the origianl bushing that goes inside the Z-bar with a repop. The original is shaped more like a derby hat and is a bit more shallow than the repop.

not all reproductions are the same and the factory did not always use the same supplier so there could be many versions of the same part that fit and function the same but do not look the same. Maybe it was made off a different version because it is no harder to make the cone shape on the lath then the flat.

It could be a poor reproduction or a different version ?

Thanks.

Any idea on why the swivels go in separate directions? Is it to make using the cotter pins easier?
