I hadn't heard of this modification before. I read the link at the Camaro site and it seems a lot of people use it on the 2nd Gens with positive results. Will this work on my 74 GTO? I haven't climbed under it to see if it looks like there is enough room, but anything I can do for free to improve traction would be great! Plus, I put in new rear springs that have an extra leaf, so the car sits kind of high in the back, so dropping it slightly wouldn't hurt either!!!

This a new mod to me! Does this have benefits for drag racing or road course racing only? With the change in instant center with this mod it should help with launching the car. imho Anyone have input? JD

It helps on either at least it did on my car. Herb Adams is the one that came up with the modification and he was the main engineer on the second gen T/A chassis and suspension. It was listed on his "No Dollar" mods to improve the handling and braking on second Gen cars back in the seventies. If I remember correctly it improves "Anti-Squat" characteristics.

Yes, but I have only found it discussed with regard to the second gen Firebirds. Does anyone know if it will work on my X body (74 GTO)?

The rear suspension on the X and F body is nearly identical and I have done this mod on a 74 GTO and it worked fine.

Thanks, Sirrotica, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I knew the suspensions were similar, but I didn't want to pull my spring brackets off the car and screw something up because of some difference I wasn't aware of.

It's not anything you can't reverse anyway, the original holes are still there and all you do is drop the front hanger down and move the front spring back to the original hole if you don't think it suits you. I doubt you'll want to do that though as any car I've done it on hooks better whether its corners or straightaways. Have a new set of 6 J nuts when you do it as they have a habit of breaking if they are at all rusty.

It really depends on what you're looking for .......straight line traction or overall street performance .The HA mods will help for sure but if maximum traction is what you want then the Calvert bar system is what you need .
