Does anyone else have a 68 GTO Convertible with the 2bbl option? I've looked around the internet and haven't been able to another convertible.

My guess is that the few that were produced have been converted to 4 bbl's at some point in their life. You won't know without the PHS.

I just a few days ago purchase a '68 GTO convert auto on the column-bench seat, thought for sure it was going to have a 2bbl. Has a 4bbl. I got it from the original owner he say's it had a 4bbl from the get go. My brother had a '67 convert original 2bbl switch at some point to a 4bbl.

That seems like a fat price in 68.
How many options total? Jeff |

had a '69 air conditioned ragtop. Documented one owner XX block with matching VIN. However, PHS showed the car to be a YS car. Firewall was fitted with grommet for hide-aways...yet car was not so optioned. Maybe a change in plans after it was already moving down the line? In researching production numbers, one source said 215 and another said 216. Just wonder if one used PHS for its figures...hence being one short. Mine had a 2.56 open gear. Only the second car I've owned with air conditioning yet NO tinted glass!

This is some great info. This is the story of my car. My dad purchased it from a guy in 1972. We drove this car as our family car for 2 years. From 1974 or so it sat in my parents yard. My parents only drove around town and never took it on any trips. So the car has a little over 34,000 original miles on it. My dad gave me the car in 1988 and I really didn't do anything with it until 1993. This is where I made a huge mistake with disasembly, and didn't take pictures or log any info. I was only 18 years old at the time. Well my dad passed away in 2000 from cancer and I swore that I would restore it back to original. I started a frame off restoration. I put the body back on the frame last summer. Now I'm working on the details of the suspension and steering. I plan on it being a roller by summer. The details of the car are as follows:
Solar Red with Black convertible top. Black interior No AC No power brakes No power steering Turbo 400 PT code 400 with 265hp step down option 256 gears posi (code unknown) open head lights 4 wheel drum brakes AM radio with one speaker in the dash Parts I'm going to be looking for because my dad changed when he owned it. #14 heads (I have #15 heads on it now) original alternator original starter original Delco voltage regulator 3 more JC code Rally II's I have everything else. I'm so glad that I have this site of experts that I can count on for information. I have original repair manual, the Body my Fisher book and Restoration Book. But these books don't give all of the answers. Between the search option on this site and the vast information people on this have. I have no doubt that I will be able restore this car back to original. I just want to thank everyone that has and will provide me with the answers that I need.

69 ragtops with air came only with 2.78 rears or higher. Also air cars had fuel pumps with return line as non-air cars didn't have return line. Air cars also came with blower relay on high setting.

I looked at a 68 column shift 2bbl car about 5yrs ago. Owner wouldn't sell it to me but a yr later got hard up and sold it for 800.00 from what I was told.
Burgundy, Black Vinyl and Bench interior, rallys, non A/C, remote mirror, exposed lights, guages. I have no clue where it went. Mike

On a 69 PHS you will never see the 2bbl option since it was No Charge, only way to know for sure is a buildsheet or the VIN matched block coded XX.
I had a 2bbl 69 back in the 80's. Automatic, Warwick blue, parchment bench, PS, AM radio, and deluxe hubcaps. It was a nice powertrain actually; surprisingly good throttle response (better than a Qjet with similar gearing), great highway cruising and no pinging. Felt like a regular GTO up to half throttle and then dead after that.

I'm going to write a letter to the original owner this weekend. Since I'm the 3rd person to own this car and have not registered it yet. His name is still on the title. I looked him up on the internet and he still lives at the same address. I'm going to see if he will meet with me and fill me with info.

By the way I read somewhere that many of the 2bbl GTO's were ordered by rental car companies like Avis.
