I found out about the CCP in Indiana back in 1999, but thanks anyway. My first firearm was a .22 rifle when I was 12 y.o.(along time ago) and have been familiar with firearms ever since.

The pistol Grandpa Ernest and Dad taught firearm safety with was Grandpa's 1898 Model
S&W Military and Police that he brought home from WW1. My first was also a .22 (Marlin

If you shot someone in my County who was holding a broken bottle to your wifes throat, they would give you a medal, no arrest or charges filed, etc.

In any and all cases, the FORCE that you use against anyone must be "reasonable for the circumstances". This applies everywhere, regardless what sort of local or State laws are in place concerning the carrying of weapons, etc.

In todays society, there are simply way too many "sheep". You have to decide if you are going to continue to be a sheep, or a "wolf". The worse thing that can possible happen to you in this life, is to end up someplace, in a situation that requires deadly force, and everyone is armed but you!

Personally, I prefer to be a "wolf", other wolves are humble in my company. I have plenty of weapons, and never leave home without one of them.....Cliff

That's the way things are here. The right to self-defense and use of deadly force are guaranteed by the Indiana State Constitition. As I've said before, Grandpa Ernest shot
and killed two men in self-defense. No charges were ever brought against him.

Ohio is also taking a TOUGH stance on those that would do us harm. The Castle Doctrine is in place, and Law Enforcment agencies are not so quick to bring charges against anyone who defends themselves, provided the amount of force they use, is reasonable for the circumstances.

The Castle Doctrine also protects law abiding citizens from prosecution, and from civil action that could/would be brought against them for using Deadly Force when it is justified.

We are a rural community here, wide spread population and no large cities close by. What's been happening in these tough times, is that folks are breaking into homes and outbuildings at at increasing rate. Some of these B & E's results in confrontations with property owners. There have been several shootings and a couple of homicides recently, and it's GOING TO GET WORSE.

I carry my side arm at all times, just like grabbing up my keys and wallet. I absolutely refuse to be a helpless victim of a violent crime.....Cliff

In and of itself......you are NEVER autorized to use deadly force to protect your property, specifically. Even with that said, having to stay in the house while someone goes through all your hard earned possessions while you wait minutes (or hours) for Law Enforcment to arrive is unrealistic.

Here in Ohio, we are no longer bound to retreat to the safety of our homes when confronted by tresspassers, theives, criminals, etc.

Here is the way it goes. IF someone decides to tresspass on my property and gets caught in the act, they will be given orders to cease and desist that behaviour and to lie flat on the ground with their hands in plain site at all times.

IF they choose to run away and make no threatening actions, they will probably live to steal another day. IF they have a vehicle within close proximity to me, I will NOT allow them to reach that vehicle, as I would see this as potential to arm themselves and not solely as a means of escape.

IF they do anything else, like run their big fat mouth, get confrontational, tell me to go fluck myself, etc, deadly force against them will be forthcoming. The FACT that they did not comply with my task directions, and/or any "aggressive" attitude/actions/etc would make me feel threatened in these situations.

I live WAY out in the country, the average response time from Law Enforcement is apprx 45 minutes. I've been DIRECTLY involved twice in the past 12 months with folks tresspassing on my property. In both situations, they chose to leave immediately with 4 dogs right on their heals, and the big one trying to pull peices off of them!

Since at no time did I feel threatened by either of these individules, no deadly force was used against them. Basically, it would NOT be appropriate (reasonable for the circumstances) to gun someone down running off through the woods like their backside was on fire! It could have been nothing more than some 10 year old looking to steal a bicycle for all I know?.....Cliff

If you decide to get one, Take all the training courses they have available and keep going to the range for practice, practice, practice. learn how to shoot with your weak hand as well as your good hand. Learn reloading tactics using only one hand and practice, practice, practice. Just because you are carrying a gun doesn't mean that you can pull it on someone just to "scare" them. As in previous posts, you have to have a reason to pull it. Some States have weird laws incorporated into their CCW laws and you need to keep up on these. There are reasons it is called a "Concealed" weapons license. Find a gun that you can handle and are comfortable shooting if you don't own one yet. You should be able to go to a gun range and rent a few different models to help you in your choice purchasing one. Just my .02 cents.

I couldn't agree more. What's the old saying, Cliff? When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away, or something like that. This is not a knock on law enforcement in any way, shape, matter or form. It's the simple reality that the police CANNOT be the first responders in every situation. How could they be? They are not omnipresent like my 9mm is.

Something else to consider when it comes to intruders is the use of less than leathal types of force, warning shots, etc. Nothing will get an intruders attention quicker that "racking a round into a 12 gauge pump shotgun", for example. Or firing a round into the woods over their heads or in their general direction, or placing my hand on my gun while it is still holstered (unexpected encounter), and give them SPECIFIC task direction(s).

EVERYONE knows what to expect next if I place my hand on my weapon while it is still holstered and tell them to slowly put the chainsaw down and place your hands on your head while interlocking your fingers (for example). It's pretty much a "universal" language when you touch your weapon, rack a round into the chamber, or point it and at the same time give them SPECIFIC to follow.

At this point, any reasonable prudent person fully knows what could come next. Those that don't care to or want to stay above ground much longer will fail to follow your orders to the detail. Cripe folks, I don't want to send someone to the other side any more than anyone else, but the reality of these situations are, that there are PLENTY of folks out there these days that will trespass on your property steal your stuff, do you harm, harm your family, etc. Since in most cases we are the first and only line of defense, and IMHO....PREPARE YOURSELF accordingly.....Cilff

PS: just a few weeks ago, a 54 year old woman that lives close to me went out to her truck to warm it up while she got ready for Church services on Sunday morning. Apparently somone tried to steal it, and she walked outside to confront them, where she quickly received a small caliber round to the head killing her almost instantly. It can happen anywhere, at any time.....

Something no-one has addressed here.if you pull the trigger on a .44mag/special,.45 long Colt and to a lessor extent a .357 in a enclosed area at night,you will not be able to hear or see a God-D*mn thing for a period of time.A long enough period to get killed in.

The right round in my 44mag will temporarily blind you with flash also.....and also shoot through a few walls.

Ruger back in the 80's made three basic models in their Double-Action Revolvers, not including the Redhawk series. The three were:
Security-Six that offered adjustable sights, semi-target grips early models with slender bbls. while later offered heavy target bbls. that were not tapered. and target grips compared to the early grip panels.

Service-Six that offered the same basic frame, but with fixed sights. I believe the grip design was the same as used on the Security Six models. The Service Six was targeted towards L.E. and included Police in front of the Service Six on the frame.

Speed Six was the compact version of same basic design as the Service Six, with round butt style frame.

Redhawk was the heavy frame version primarily made for hunting in .357, .41, and 44 mag. calibers 5.5" and 7.5" bbls.

Any of these dbl. action models are still fine revolvers and can often be found at reasonable prices.
