Just wondering if anyone has any golden nuggets of info on replacing an AC controls lens on a 69 GTO. I have my new lens, and new knobs.....

WHATS BEST METHOD FOR KNOBS removal?

Pulling, cutting......Don't want to screw up any of the switches by pulling too hard. I could use a little cutoff wheel with my dremel.....

Anyhow, if you've been there done that, lemme know. THANKs.

I was able to replace the one on my '72 without removing the knobs, but I believe with the earlier ones the knobs won't clear the slots in the glass. I painted the black background with a semi-flat black once I got the old lens out. Here is a good article from Hemmings that should help with a '69 :

wrap the knobs with electrical tape then snap a pair of needle nose vise grips on them stiff enough to grab it without crushing them and a hard steady pull, you won't hut the levers. You may want to reconsider your new knobs, they won't be the same as originals. They list them as fitting 69-72 yet 69 knobs are different as you'll see, the 70-72 knobs aren't angled at the back side like the 69 knobs are though they will fit. Is the whole unit out of the dash? If so, take the extra time to take it apart completely, clean out the hardened slider grease and give it some new grease, you'll be amazed how those levers adjust like butter compared to the knuckle busting you're used to!

I hadn't noticed the diff between the repops and the originals. I will give the elect tape pull method a shot, and preserve the originals if I can. If I muff em up, I have back ups.

Unit is out of car....it's all greased and smooooooth, just like to get the new lens on it. Factory knobs are good too, no flaking I recall. I will try to preserve them if I can!
