I agree with Steve, this is great rust remover with no issues to metal. However, it can lift some original paint coatings. It's ok on the red primer for instance, but will lift the paint off of say the upper control arms, where paint was applied directly to bare metal.

What I have found is that the paint will lift if there is surface rust underneath it. So, if you have an area where the rust has seeped under the adjacent paint coating, the rust remover will attack that rusty area as well. In my link above, there is a before and after shot of the jack base and you can see what it does to the rusty spots and the adjacent paint.

like Lloyd was saying on that rear A/C bracket, Sonic made a run of reproductions and they did still have a number of them in stock about 3 months ago when I bought one. It's a very high quality piece, I think they were $175 or so when I got mine.

Rick - I thought that I remembered you were gonna buy one of those brackets from Barry.

Have you any idea yet if it's gonna fit properly?

Thank you for those detailed pics on the shaker switch! You know I'd ask... what is that diode that can is wrapping over the switch on both cars? I'm familiar with the kickdown switch itself, but haven't seen the diode before.

Also, for the automatic car, does this mean the shaker door opens when the TH400 kicks down? Both happen at the same time?

not sure why the diode is there, it was on both cars so i'm sure its from the factory. not sure about the th400 kick down.

here's an interesting tid bit, notice how the hood stripe decal bends half way into the shaker opening lip - that would be very difficult to do.

This must be one of those IQ tests because I cannot get my brain to read what I'm looking at in the photo. Is it 2 people kissing...or an old lady and a young lady in the same image???

I had to study that pic for a while myself, Steve. It's shot across the top of the hood, looking towards the passenger side. The blue background is what's so confusing - Brent's M22 T/A is parked next to this one.

Hello 2nd Gen gear heads. I have a rather simple question Im sure for all of you. Since Im a first gen guy, I dont have a lot of knowledge with 2nd gen cars. Does anyone have or can suggest where I can find a wiring diagram on how the functional door operates on a shaker hood?

That diode seems to be only on the '72 models. I think it's there because the '72 switch performs two tasks. It downshifts the transmission and it operates the hoodscoop door, and they do operate at the same time.

That's what I was thinking as well, Jim.

I just checked my '72 SM, and the diode is not documented in the F-body wiring diagram though.

A diode is like an electrical version of a check valve. Energy only flows one way through a diode. I wonder why they needed it?

Edit: I looked at the picture and my guess is that is a resistor, not a diode. Those are color bands if I'm not mistaken.
