Yeah, it would be a great first car for someone's 16 year old, to get them started with the Pontiac bug, without enough power to get them into serious trouble. This thread has started to become cluttered with legitimate ads recently. |

The base firebird would have been a 4 cylinder 4 spd. car with roll up windows & vynil interior & single trac rear end. I know I had a base car for awhile. I used it for a delivery car when I had a party store that sold party stuff & flowers. It got great miliage & got around really great in the snow. The balance on the car was great. But the 4 cylinder didn't hold up very long as i put 2 in it while i had it & that was only 2 years. But it was fun to drive. Handled great with the 4 cyl. in it as the wieght bias was great.

This is true but the V6 engine and Viscount(PMD) deluxe interior were extra cost options available on the base Firebird, which the craigslist car is optioned with.

He replaced that car with a (I think) 1991 Olds Cutlass Supreme which was even worse. His best Olds was his first - an '83 Omega with an electrical system that shorted out the first day he owned it. Really a good case study for why so many people started buying Japanese...

To add insult to injury, I went into my '85 Century directly from my ol' yeller '68 GTO (2 weeks after it caught fire and 3 weeks after I got married). I figured I should invest in a NEW car.... the first and last new car purchase I ever made. After being accustomed to that Pontiac 400 torque, that thing almost got me killed the first time I gunned it on an entrance ramp to merge into fast moving traffic. It wouldn't even get out of it's own way, much less that 18 wheeler I pulled in front of.
