I have a 68 WT code 400 with #16 heads. The heads are being freshened up right now. I will be running headers with a 3 inch magniflow exhaust. I would like some advice on a slightly more aggressive cam than stock. I would like to pull a little more power out of the motor but I'm not looking to go too radical. I'm not looking to be tuning every weekend and would like to use pump gas in it. I will be using stock 68 GTO four barrel manifold as well. Any advice on brands or specific cams is appreciated. Thanks.

Here is a similar thread I posted. The pistons I posted are flat top with 4 valve reliefs.
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=604405 IMO 3" exhaust is way overkill. 2.5" would be just fine and will not give you fitment/clearance problems. Also, just wondering what you are having done to your heads, and do you know what the machine work is going to run you? That is where I am at. I plan on having bronze valve guides and hardened exhaust seats installed.

I'll bet the 3" exhaust bleeds off some bottom end grunt from your 400.
What transmission and rear gear do you run?

I'm running a turbo 400. Not sure on the rear gears. They are probably 323's. The head work will be about $450. That is cleaned pressure tested, decked and set up to burn unleaded. also new valves.

Really wanting to get this done but afraid to ask what it is going to cost! Not a big cam guru so I can't offer a whole bunch of advice, but good luck with your build-up.

If you've got an automatic and 3.23 gears I wouldn't venture to far beyond an 068 or something close. I personally like a hyd roller.... and have a 220/224 @ .050 Comp Cams with my 69 400 with a Turbo 400/3.55 rear.
Is your car an A/C car?

I would check your compression with the number 16 heads. Your compression maybe getting up to around 10.5 or better unless you have ported / opened up the heads. The number 16 heads many times require the use of a dished piston to get the compression down. The general thought is some where around 9.5 to 10 is managable. Be sure to clean up the block and check how far in the hole the pistons are setting. Just food for thought.

Thanks for the insight guys. There is no AC on this one only thing hooked to the motor will be power steering.
