Default GM in Oshawa doing great

Was at a place today and got a couple of shots of GM getting a bunch of Camaros ready to ship. Sorry for the grainy images, I shot them from my camera phone. These guys are running 24 hours a day to meet demand. I ran into one of the executives who was ready to take my head off for snapping images, but when I told him about my '66 Lemans Sprint, he became quite friendly. He said "you wanna see something?" and pulled back the cover on this absolutely brand new Corvair Corsa seen in the one image. Cool. Also, BMW was in the space before and left behind the Isetta and some other ancient Bimmer which I did not recognize. Sometimes we car guys run into each other and the results are interesting.

Yup, they just built their 100K Camaro. Not too shabby.

Great pics. Too bad they are a socialist company, the Camaro is a neat car.

Going by my carhaul days, Oshawa always did great. Even better than St. Therese in Quebec where I hauled out of... right from the factory. We had backhauls out of Wellesley Island where Oshawa dropped cars and trucks. These were delivered all over New England, New York, and the Mid Atlantic states. Even as far West Virgina and northern Ohio. Plus they have one hugh railyard for shipping out west in Canada and to the US.

And with Oshawa always doing great, that's the one reason GM hasn't closed that plant. It's always been their star in Canada, with the most variety. There were always problems in the St. Therese plant, so that was the main reason it closed. Second was the very low call for the Camaro and Firebird, even at the end of their run at St. Therese.

Why do you insist on calling GM a socialist company? You wouldn't have taken the gov. funds they received? Chrysler did way back in the early 80s and any car maker would do the same.

One thing that I was not able to get a shot of was a bunch of bodies painted different colors for developmental purposes. There was dark (forest) green, dark blue, light blue, turquoise and purple , to name a few.

The antique BMW in the picture looks like a Dixi, the first car they sold. They were basically an Austin 7 built under license. Kind of funny they would leave those two cars behind, I would assume they'll come back and get them eventually.

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but there's a large parking lot just down the street from my office where local car dealers store new stock (it's always a mixture of brands.) It used to be always full of cars, but then for the last year or two it's been virtually empty. I drove by there today at lunch, and noticed it's nearly full of cars again.

Default GM Cars?

I drove a new Malibu the other day and I was really impressed with the quality and feel of the car. I've always driven their trucks but would never even look at their cars. Now, I would definitely consider the Malibu over a Camry.

Default Where are they making that/

The Regal will be built in Oshawa as well? Lord knows they need the work, ever since they closed the truck plant. That was devastating to the local economy.

Certainly not a bad looking vehicle, but why is that every new 4-door car (not just GM) looks like they copied a G-35?

Toyota not only deserves bashing, but this is a Pontiac site. Go to a Toyota site and sing their praises there.

Oh here we go. Why don't YOU go to a Toyota bashing site, instead of spreading it all over a Pontiac site? I love my old Pontiac, but some of you are constantly hapring on the Toyota thing.

Is it envy, or jealousy?

It ain't envy and surely isn't jealousy.

Toyota only exists as you know it today because the US government rebuilt them after WWII.

They were one of the first socialist car companies...
