rear end ?
I'm looking at a rear out of a 69 Camaro. I want to use it for my 69 bird. My question is this. The camaro rear has a 2:73 gears and is a posi unit. I want to put either a set of 3:23 or 3:55 gears in it. Is this possible, or do i have to change anything? Do i just need to by the gears and installation kit? Thanks for any info. Damian.

isn't the Camero rear 1" narrower? It will fit but it might effect how your rear wheels sits....

I believe you would need the 3 series carrier to go numerically higher than 3.08
PY member 'monzaz' is a great source for info and parts. Also keep in mind that the Chevy 8.2 is different than the Buick/Olds/Pontiac 8.2. You could use a ring gear spacer, but they have a reputation as being dangerous on a street car.

If going to do swap, use a 72-78 nova 8.5" - alot cheaper than the chevy 8.2 and parts are alot more plentiful and its 1" narrower as is the early camaro 8.2 - and lots stronger!

I used a nova rear end in my 67 Bird.

Better then the Nova rear, look for the same in any BOP car, and you'll get better axles, and bolt in rather then the C clips. The 10 8.5" corporate was also made for the BOP cars, and is also like the 8.2" with the bolt in axles. Parts from all the 8,5" will swap from one to another as far as gears go. But the better axles were in the BOP cars. Same as with the 8.2" Not sure if spline count is better in BOP 8.5"

No such rear exist that will bolt right in the F-body, at least non that I have found. All the 8.5 from the Ventura, Olds Omega & Buick Apollo from capatible years were are all C-clip. |

I put a 3:35 posi rear in mine last year. And i wish i would have gone with the 3:55. I still have a hard time spinning the tires....

You would need a spacer plate to run 3.55 on that carrier I believe is only good up to 3.23 gears with out the plate. Here are the ones summit has http://www.summitracing.com/search/P...word=ring+gear
