Bad experience w/ Lares rebuilts........
I purchased a rebuilt p/s pump and gearbox from one of the Pontiac suppliers for my 68 GP and experienced problems w/ both units. The supplier refunded the price of both units, but I am out the labor to change them out. The cores on both rebuilt parts were so badly worn that they were not even suitable for rebuilding. I ended up rebuilding my original steering box and purchasing a new "blue-printed" pump from Summit after trying THREE other pumps from local auto parts store, none of which made more than 400psi instead of the spec 1500psi.
With only well-worn used cores available for rebuilding, I advise members to disassemble rebuilt pumps & steering to check them for out-of-spec wear before installation. Les
