ALSO, the front coil springs....I blasted them, and just coated them in "cast iron" paint. What color were they from the factory?

Went to the body shop, making some progress I guess. Undercarriage is painted, they want me to bring the subframe so they can get it on the ground and align the panels. I am supposed to get the painted shell back within 2 weeks.

Emergency brake paint
Great work on the resto ! the pictures are super and a great reference. What is the paint type and color for the Emergency brake assembly ? I think I saw you use it on various interior hard parts. Keep up the good work !

Thanks!! I used Semi-gloss black, and Eastwood Cast iron paint on the E-brake.

Hope the body shop not only uses the Dowels, but also does a few measurements on that subframe to get it right,straight, could be huge with sheet metal alignment. Bolts at 75-95 ft lbs. I would give them extra washers to be able to lower the rad support to correct spot. Looking great so far! Nice to see a 73 getting this treatment.

Wow, what an awesome project! I have two questions for you-
How did you clean up the emergency brake assembly? That looks amazing! What have you been using to prep the driveshaft/rear axle for paint? Those too look awesome!

I sandblasted the E-brake, then tried to duplicate the factory black "line", and instead of leaving the upper part bare metal, I painted it. I used a wire wheel on the driveshaft, I was going to just clear the bare metal, but ended up painting it. The 10 bolt was to large for my blaster, so I had the powder coating guy blast it for me. |

Thanks for the replies! I'll be doing some of this stuff myself and I'm currently using a wire brush on an angle grinder but wanted to know how to tackle the bigger stuff. I've got a local outfit that has powder and ceramic coated for me before, so I'll probably use them.

Looking good!
I did the same with my e brake asembly...sandblasted it, washed it out and painted both the "bare metal" part and the satin black part. Followed the line where the factory had dipped the assembly.

Been a while since I updated this post. The body shop sent me pics of the painted panels a couple weeks ago, I hear the shell is painted and they are cutting/buffing right now. Ive been trying be patient, staying occupied on other projects as well as restoring parts for this car.
The PUI "red" is to bright for 73, not even in the ballpark, so I am going to take the seats apart, and dye them along with the door upper door panels. Wish me luck.. Last edited by Hotrodizz; 03-18-2011 at 11:21 AM. |

Outer A/C box is done. I pretty much just disassembled everything, removed the original sticker with a heat gun, then cleaned, blasted, and repainted all the original parts (other than new blower motor) then reassembled.
I did use aersosol Plastidip to give the pipe gaskets a "new" look, and also cleared any of the cleaned bare metal surfaces. It had crack at the bottom where they beat it up installing headers at some point. One of my buddies fiberglass repaired that for me. I ended up using Duplicolor FB109 to refinish the exterior of the case. It is a dead-on match for the original finish, it blended in perfect. |

Seems like I may have the Brewster 73 from the other body shop too. The shell is actually painted.
