My 69 bird has a 350 eng. 4 bbl quad. When i put the pedal to the floor the cable does not open my four barrels? I adjusted it as far as it will go, but it won't open? or maybe my bracket is wrong?? any help plz

I have been going through the same problem with mine. Check your gas pedal. Is it wobbling all over the place? I just ordered a new accelerator to pad support from Classic Industries (pn 3863501). I also got talked into ordering the accelerator pedal bushing set, and two accelerator rod grommets and sleeves. If yours uses a cable, like mine, you don't need them. I also ordered a throttle cable from performance years (pn PYE 56). I haven't installed them yet. It looks like I am going to have to remove the brake booster to get to the bolts for the accelerator bushing. They say your bracket should be stamped with a 4, not a 2. I can't find the stamp on mine.

If your not concerned with originality lokar makes a nice universal GM cable.

My pedal doesn't seem wobbly? I don't see any stamp # on mine?? I might try to change the cable though... Let me know how u make out

I just fixed mine. What a nightmare.

I tried bending out the big U-shape but this was a bad idea as it put the end way above the cable and the cable could not retract all the way. Bending it back was no longer an option while in the car so it was time to pull the peddal out. It wasn't an option as I didn't want to break the plastic pivot point or the weld joint on the peddal arm. I just didn't have the leverage.

I ended up having to remover the peddal. After 50 times above the car/below the car to remove the C-clip and removing the plastic pivot piece to removing the throttle bracket on/off, plastic piece on/off bending the peddal on the vice back and forth. I got it where I wanted.

You can see that I left the U-bend and put a kink in it just above where the two pices join. It didn't take much of a bend to get the travel I needed.

I was able to bend this out with a box end wrench sliped over the throttle arm. But since I bent it to far I just didn't see bending it back with out breaking the weld joint.

I have bent mine a few times over the years, it keeps bending back. It finally broke at the welds. I had to re-weld it and add another bar as a brace to keep it from bending.

When the one on mine broke (stuck full throttle and snapped off - yes that was fun) I went with lokar since I couldn't find a replacement for the stock I6.

That is surprising that you would need a support. When I had this on the vice it took a good deal of effort to bend.

Yours will bend again. They are hardened steel, but they bend at the weld, so bend that rod all you want it will just bend itself more at the weld. I put my brace on about 5 yrs ago and have not had a problem since. I also bought a Lokar gas pedal assembly at the same time and have not had to put it in yet. Brace it or get a Lokar pedal

Which Lokar did you use? There are a lot of them.

This is the one I used. I used it with a stock cast iron intake and a Q-Jet, I went with the plastic jacket, There was a little massaging to do but not a lot, and it has good adjustability....... http://www.lokar.com/product-descrip...o-pak-kits.htm

Thanks, I might need to call them to see if it will work with a tripower.
