1970 GTO 455HO TWO TONE RARE?
I just purchased a 1970 GTO and when I recieved the build sheet it says it was originally a 455HO with two-tone std. It was Silver on the bottom and starlight black on the top. I was just wondering if any one knew if that was pretty rare to get a two-tone gto with out it being a cordova top? Thanks

How about a 1970 GTO Judge R/A III 4spd. ordered in White with a Painted Red roof !!!! I have a friend who is the original owner of such car. When his car was delivered to said dealership another person seen the car on the transport being taken off and ordered a Red car whith a White roof ( do not know if that car still around). I'd say there rare. I think all of those were special ordered.

wow black n silver would be cool.
my friends hurst olds has that scheme. i always kinda wondered about 70-72 bodies in two tone and what they'd look like. i've watched my computer fade from photo to photo of my car. sometimes a shadowy line briefly appears at the bottom half and looks real cool. |

Painted roof cars are always rare, not many were ordered. Silver with a black painted roof will be a stunning combination when done. Nice find!

Thanks guys, the body is good on it, but it is a long ways from original it is yellow right now, with a black cordova top and custom black and yellow interrior. The good news is that the body is solid. I planning on restoring it back to original or close to it and I will post pics when it is done.

Nice find indeed! Icing on the cake would be if the original motor is still with the car? Good luck witht the resto, that will be an attention-grabbing color combo and a show-winner for sure.

Riskey -
Do you also have the stainless trim for it? Seems to me that on a two-tone car, they used the vinyl top trim to split the colors. cm

RE.
It does have the chrome trime there, but I wasn't sure if that was correct since 1 of the old owners put a vinyl top on it. i was hoping someone would have a picture of 1 so I could see what they did to sparate the colors or exactly where the stopped the top vs the bottom. I assumed it was the same as where the vinyl top stopped.

I have about 500 69 GTO PHS's and only 5 of them had a RTT two tone option. What would be even rarer, I've never seen or heard of one is a STT (special order paint with two tone), it was 4 times the cost of regular paint two tone.
Wonder if they ever built one? I think the main reasons people ordered two tone was either to save money ($40 versus $115) while still getting that Cordova top look and/or because they knew about the effect Cordova tops had on rust!!

I had a 71 LeMans Sport that I parted. It was cardinal red with a white painted top and parchment interior. The vinyl top chrome trim was missing, but you could still see the posts/clips where it was originally. some options where buckets, console, a/c, disc brakes, 350 2bbl, TH350. and get this. it was a heavy duty frame car. yep, the convertible frame. it was a little rough with some minor accident damage and I bought it to part since I really didn't think it was anything special. well, at that time. the kicker is several months after I parted it, John Sawruk had an article in The Legend about unique options. Turns out only 118 hardtops in 71 were ordered with the heavy duty frame. doh!!!!!
as for the silver and black car which started this thread, that would look REAL nice. and a 455HO car to boot.

My 70 GTO is originally Cardinal Red w/ White vinyl roof and red interior. It was built in Oshawa. When I bought it it had faded red metallic paint w/ no vinyl and red chevell buckets, but had the original front buckets in the trunk. I heard that there were only two white w/ red roof GTOs made, and they were ordered for Coca-Cola, and used as promo cars but don't know if it is true or not.

Here is a scanned copy of an old Polaroid of me and my date for the Prom - next to my 71 LeMans. Mine was two-tone, pretty sure it was Adriatic Blue (thought it was Lucy Blue until I found this photo??) with Cameo White painted top. You can clearly see the vinyl top style trim piece separating the two colors, but you have to take your eyes off of my super-hot prom date first! That was an awesome night!!!

Silver/black sounds like a good looking car. I parted a crusty red/red guts, white painted top 69 4 sp GTO a few years ago. Too far gone to save.

If you look in the 1970 pontiac regisrty on this site you will find my 1970 gto 455 HO sport coupe in two tone green with dividing stainless molding........built in oshawa i have been told by gm historical that with only 133 1970 gtos built there with 455's very few came with metal tops.......mine was apperently a special order but they also informed me that in the day they never kept track of how many cars in what colors or combinations of colors were made.......i guess it just wasnt important at the time...i have searched hi and low over websites and car shows and it is extremely rare to come across other metal top two tone gto's let alone with a 455 ho......although i may stand corrected i now consider mine a one of one.....great car great find
