It was an attempt to run turbos back then. It was mechanical FI, not EFI. Proper carbs will normally out power FI but the ease of tuning the EFI now far outweighs the difference or loss if any from carbs. I would do it for the better street manners the EFi affords us. For all out strip it's not as big of a deal. Although, from what I've read, blow thru carbs may reach a point where they can not properly atomize the fuel/air at high boost/flow situations. I don't know that as fact but have seen comment towards that. I'm sure time will tell as more racers find that limit, if it's a fact.

Paul (Westcott) I may just have to talk more with Tom and see what unit will work best for me. I already have the injector ports on the manifold. I have two sets of Edlebrock fuel rails. You can find cheap factory throttle bodies anywhere. The big cost will be the computer control unit (MS or?) and injectors. I would also lean towards coil on plug as well.
The control unit I use will need capabilities for fuel, ignition, boost control, possibly 16 injectors, coil on plug, etc, to work for me. Mark

You're right, any throttle body of appropriate size will work... it's just an air valve. I use an older, 1000 cfm Holley TBI, minus the injector pods, as a throttle body. It has the TPS and IAC built in. In your application, it would still look like a blow-thru carb set up, sort of... I got my injectors off ebay for about $80, new in the box (LS1, Bosch type, 36pph ). Obviously, yours need to be sized to their task. http://www.megamanual.com/index.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...-iii-c-76.html I'm a huge fan of old school brute horsepower controlled by modern day electronics... maybe you can tell. I also like to save a buck where I can.

I'll add to Pauls comment on MS... I researched just about everything out there... Capabilities etc.. Also sampled some tuning software to see how good the human interface was... The 3rd consideration was support and parts availability... last was price.
Hands down MS comes in on top when you put all those factors together. Tuner Studio is pretty easy to get a feel for... Most parts you can get anywhere any time except the ECU and its pretty rock solid. Features are equal or better than the name brands, Support... usually you can(will IMO) find your answers on the web site. With plenty of users that have the answers because someone has been there done that good or bad and has that knowledge to pass forward 24/7. MS3 pro ECU and Harness is a top shelf deal and going for around $1300 last I looked... Does everything you need(very well) and more. Datalogging abilities(high capacity) onboard, auto tuning, boost control, shift control...basically a full blown engine/drivetrain management system. Turn on what you need add features later without having to buy the features "locked" by the manufacturer when it was built The Accell ignition stuff I sold you will work fine with your blow-thru its a good ignition setup with nice features...but reason I abandoned the plan was finding out how much more I could do with the MS stuff... even MS2. Imo decide how much of your turbo's HP capability you will feel comfortable using and buy the injectors that meet the fuel requirement at no more than 90% of their 100% duty cycle rating. (85% is safer yet) Good injectors arent cheap but thats an area you dont want to skimp on. Good news is your Blow-thru stuff will sell at fair price and often if you trust the source you can find deals on used injectors from a racer stepping to higher levels. Things like throttle bodies and sensors can be used stuff from a wreck or new stuff from your favorite local auto parts store. I'll make you a hard copy of info from Ford racing that does a great job of explaining how to properly select fuel injection components. About 5 pages and probably only info you wont use is choosing MAF size(unless you are buildn somethin we dont know about). Check your mail next week! I'm pretty certain I'll be using two single barrel throttle bodies linked in tandem somewhere on the front of a ram type manifold. Possibly make box type ram that houses an a/w intercooler core... Thanks Bruce. I'll watch for it. I just have to look at costs versus what I can sell to cover costs. Plus the time it takes to sell. But that is something I have to deal with. I just want to get it running.

Had the Cat out for another car show. Took some pics of the car after taking it off of the trailer.
![]() ![]() ![]() Show got really crowded and there were so many people looking at the Catalina. Really made me feel good. At any time there was always a crowd around it. I parked it next to our tent so it made for an opportunity to ask questions. Boy did they ask questions.!! All were enthusiastic and not a single bad comment was made or they kept it to themselves. It was very rewarding. I had it parked such that people would round the next row (vender tents) and it faced them dead nuts on to the front of the Cat. I actually saw people stop in their tracks when it caught their eye. I think one guy had an epiphany when he first saw it. He just kept saying "Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ", over and over again. What really made me feel good was some Father and Son interplay. More than once I saw Fathers explaining to their sons about the Gasser stuff (why the axle and the set back motor etc) and the Son explaining the turbo system. It was a really nice balance of passing information and like interests between the generations. Mark

I forgot to mention. We have a local TV show called Roddin' and Racin' here that covers the car scene for the state. They came up to me and asked for an on camera interview about the car. They said it airs in June or July if it gets on. I was totally surprised and unprepared. Totally off the cuff. I'll probably will sound like a real idiot but hey I keep up the cover for all my genius hey?? HA!!! They said they also have a u tube channel for the show so I have to go look and see if I can find it. WAIT. Maybe I don't want to watch it. LOL.

Hey Kris. Lots done and lots to go. But getting close to firing the engine. I'm going to pull it and put it on a start up stand so it's easy to work on in case of leaks etc. I have several things to do to it also before firing it. Once fired and run in it goes back in. Then all the fuel and water lines have to be run. The full car wiring has to go in too. I hope to at least have it moving under its own power by Oct for the fall Central Cruise. That's my target for now. If I can actually have it on the street and driving, that would be great. I'd love to take it out on the street and do a big fat burn out for the cruise.

Mark,
my "boss" has been buying these kits for me to install... http://ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html Pretty decent kits for the money. Also use the gauge packages and dash panels on alot of projects and pretty happy with the products. |

I bought a full Speedway wiring kit but it's been put away so long I can't even remember what kit. It's probably less complete than other kits but I should be OK once I devote time to it. I have a tendency to ignore stuff I'm not looking forward to doing until the time comes, then I dig in head first.
Matt, nothing I would like more than to fly you down for the project. But I've never wired a car before (other than crappy add on wiring) so it's about time I dig in and make it my own. Once I dig in it'll go fine. I just have to get my head into it, (ha, scarry hey???). Thank you for the offer though.

Mark,, You need a big radiator for the test stand?? I have a new one somewhere that was for the 69 Catalina before I sold the car. Will see if I can find it.
