Default Performer RPM Intake

I have been looking, but have some people here had trouble with the Performer RPM fitting to cast iron heads? I'm wondering because I trouble getting my intake bolts started. I had thought I had read here others had had some issues as well. I got the engine started, and it seems like it has a major vacuum leak. Any ideas, am I dreaming about what I thought I had read?

ANY aftermarket intake may need milling especially if the block has been decked or heads milled.

See if it lines up without the intake gasket on it. If so it needs a 0.060 mill.

depending on what carb you are using check the gasket under the carb. I found out years ago with a holley card the way the manifold is design there was an intake leak at the base of the carb. The manifold was designed better for a spreadbore qjet than a square bore holley. I started using the manifold again and I made a big flat aluminum plate that sealed everything up.

Most RPM intakes need some material removed from the bottom of them to clear the valley pans on Pontiac engines.

The last RPM intake we used was WAY off on port alignment as well. Never had to cut one for bolt hole alignment, unless we had cut the heads and/or block quite a bit.

I agree that they were designed for, and like spread bore carburetors. We consistantly see a few more HP using a Q-jet on one vs a square flange Holley or Holley clone. Not much more power, but consistantly 2-3 HP on engines around 500HP or so......Cliff

Agree with Cliff here, Needs some Material takin off to clear the Valley pan for sure, also absolute best thing to do is to separate the water jacket from the intake, where all trouble seems to be coming in at the bottom of the runners, its hitting the pan so i took off about a 1/16 and it really helped me out but to be truthfull it needed another 32 off.
