Default 1969 Tail Lights - Strange.......

Fella's:

Gotta situation where the tail lights, rear brake lights, and rear blinkers work fine when the light switch is off. But turn the lights on (either parking or head) and it gets strange.

Drivers Side - Inner brakes work , outter does not (outter goes out)
Pass Side - Outter brakes work, inner does not (Inner goes out)

Blinkers alternate between inner/outter...that normal?

New to having a '69..not sure what is correct.

Any help would be appreciated...thanks. Dan

The turn signals don't alternate.

You have ground problems, or bulb/socket problems. Make sure you have 1157 bulbs with two contacts in all the turn/stop sockets. Run a substitute ground to each socket (you can actually ground the shell of each bulb with your test lead). Try substitute bulbs.

I think this will head you down the right path.

Does sound like a bad ground.

Thanks Guys.....I'll start with proper grounding and go from there.

This does appear to be the cars original harness and the sockets have seen better days. I've got some electrical cleaner...I'll clean things up as well...

Thx.

The 69's had plastic reflectors w/a ground wire that attaches to each socket hole. Make sure that is still there & is grounded properly.

Not sure what model you have. On '69 Firebird the lamps need to be installed in the (mounted) housing for proper ground, otherwise they will be erratic, esp. when lights are on.
