Yeah, I did post pictures of my first ride of the year however this last one was my 5th thus NO pictures.
I have to run that route again Friday to review a bid with a customer and will bring the camera to document and post some pictures. This road (CTY F) kicks ass and wish I had someone to run it with Bob, If you have any interest in selling let me know because if mine go next month I'll be looking. I have a few cars in mind to review. 70 Formula, 72 TA, and your car. There all killer cars and very similar less the drive trains. |

The 73 was a nice car and all there, but needed some freshening up to brig much higher $$. Don't get me wrong it is a nice car and the new owner bought it real well.
The 4 sp TA was real nice and was freshly restored. By far it was the best presented second gen at the auction. However the owner was never around for questions and it did not have the original trans which probably detracted from going higher. But I had heard that the reserve was off the charts so it would not sell anyway. A 73 4sp Cameo White black interior is my dream SD. It was VERY cool!!! Now while everyone was oogling over the high dollar stuff, there was a base 73 firebird that went across the blocks with 62 miles on the odometer (Yes I stuck my head in ad looked... it was 62 miles). Everything was original including the tires. even had the fuzzy air intake hose.

I'm thinking that SD Formula may have been the best buy of any of the '70-73 Firebirds that were there. If I was in the market to buy right now, I would have been happy with that car for that amount.

For the 73 is was just little things. The heads had the paint burned off and the Exhaust manifolds were rusty. The engine compartment had a large amount of dust and the interior was filthy. Nothing that an afternoon with $50 of detail supplies and some Van Halen on the radio while cleaning the car couldn't fix. But as it sat it just looked a little rough. But I agree with transamric, it was a very good SD car.
Oh and yes it was a great time looking at all the cars and there were lots of Pontiacs to look at (Which is why I went in the first place).

One car at the Mecum aution in Indy this year was a 74 TA listed as a SD 4sp car. One look at the vin indicated it was originally a 400 car, but a real 4 sp. Then he added SD decals on the radiaor support and had chrome valve covers. Oh and the car had airconditioning. So if the owner was going for the "let's build a clone" he missed the mark. But the capper was the air intake hose. If somone had told me that a T/A owner would use a clothes dryer duct for the air intake I nver would have believed it.... I still can't belive it and I took the picture.

johnta1 - Yes, the car did sell, just shy of 20 K if I remember correctly. It is truely one of the cases where the buyer must beware as the description did say that it has a SD engine. Just another reason why you need to do your homework when going to an auction.
