Default Can Am upholstery

OK guys, I need to repair some tears in the driver seat of my Can Am (it's torn right in the stitch seams). I saw a company listed in another thread that still has yardage of the correct material available but they list the cut off year at 1975. My question is, is there any difference in what Pontiac used in the A-bodies from 75 to 77? Rick? Anybody? If there is a difference, does anyone know of another source? I want to get this done before the PITP event at VMP April 30th.

Brian,

SMS's easy search feature cuts off at 1975, but they definitely have the correct code 19 Sierra? grained vinyl for the 1977 Can Am black bucket seats. I have received material from them for my 1976 LeMans, so I know they supply material for cars newer than 1975. (503)-263-3535

Thanks, Rick. I may order enough material to do the front and rear seats completely, but for now I just want to repair the minimal amount needing repair as I'm trying to keep the interior as original as possible. If not for the tears in the stitching in one spot, it wouldn't need repairing.

I have referenced my 1977 Pontiac Dealer Order Guide, and verified that the vinyl design is in fact Sierra grain for all bucket seats in the 1977 LeMans Sport Coupes. The color code is 19R1 for the black interior.

I ordered a roll of the white vinyl from SMS for my Can Am project and it is indeed the correct material and grain. It is a bit yellowed at the edges of the roll from age, but nothing that can't be trimmed or cleaned up with Westleys Bleach White.

Question

Just curious, Brian..how did you make out with SMS and the fabric for your seat?

I've been in the upholstery business since 1977, black Sierra grain is widely available from almost any supplier in the country, as is Madrid, Doeskin, oxen, Levant. etc... Sometimes the weave look and perforated are hard to find in the correct pattern, but standard grains are widely available and usually way cheaper from some than others.

Haven't gotten around to it yet, Rick. Wanted to get it done over the winter but all that snow kicked my ass. Got a show on June 6th and then the car will sit most of the summer, so I'll tend to it with the bumper.

OK, finally pulling the seat out to be repaired. I don't want to recover the entire seat, just repair the two panels that are ripped (trying to keep the interior as original as possible). I'll be supplying the material, just looking for opinions on labor cost. Does removing the seat cover, removing and repairing the torn panels, and reinstalling the cover for $350 sound like a fair deal? I think it may be, given that it seem to me there is more more involved in repairing panels than just recovering the entire seat. I know what it cost to have a seat cover and injector cover made for the funny car, which was outrageous.
