I currently have a stock 70 GTO convertible, TH400. The original quadrajet carb is damaged due to the threads being stripped where the fueil line connects to the carb. Don't think it can be repaired. I would like to replace the carb with a Holley, but not sure if it is the best fit. I am looking at the 80555C 4bbl 650CFM qaudrajet replacement carb. Does anybody have any suggestions? I am still running points on the car, but considering an electronic ingnition.
Thanks, Troy |

I have an Edlebrock Performer Competion Series carb that looks like a Carter AFB. Seems to work fine.

Do you have the 600CFM, Electric choke performance carb from Edelbrock? If so, are you running points or EI?

The stock carb is 750 cfm. I would contact Cliff Ruggles on here about fixing yours or see if he has a replacement. I've used the Edelbrocks and in my opinion the OE Qjet was used for a reason. They offer unmatched performance, economy and reliability.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from store bought replacements. And definitely avoid a Chevy Qjet unless it is reworked to specs for your combination. My 02 cents.

Cliff can repair those threads, and they will be better than new.

![]() easy bolt on, with a few adjustments and a wire for the electric choke and it runs great. went that way because it was an easy/fast solution to keeping me cruising.

Cliff is everyone's first choice for Q-jets... which means a long wait time. If you'd rather not wait you can buy his book and rebuild your own with one of his kits.
Another option if you don't want to wait (or, like me, lack the ability/patience/knowhow to do it yourself) you can contact Jeff Walker (also a member on PY) and have him build you one. I bought one from Jeff last summer when I did the 2V to 4V swap on my Lemans and he did a great job. No issues, no fiddling/tuning, fired right up on the first turn of the key after install, very happy with the result. Reliable and still running great a year later and happy enough with the result to give him some free advertising... that says a lot these days. Just my .Scott

Here is a link to the guy I bought my Quadrajet from. The carb I bought looks great and runs perfectly. He often has different Pontiac quadrajets for sale. The coloring and quality of the rebulid is very nice. I've had a few Holley's and nothing has run as well as my current set up with a cast intake and quadrajet carb. |
