1969/69 hideaways
I have a 69 that I want to convert over to a hideawy set up. There is a local guy with a 68 setup, forgive me for sounding ignant but is there ANY difference between a 68 to 69 setup, would a 68 be right for my 69? I mean ANYTHING at all, I hate buying stuff twice, thanks for your help?

Isn't the '68 a little different aesthetically as far as the grilles go? I thought '69 has a bar going through the middle of the grille and headlights, but I could be wrong.

Ok Thanks so its just the grills right nothing to do with the endura, or mechainism or doors underneath then?

The 68 endura has a hole in the top center where a Pontiac Arrow emblem mounts and the 69 does not. It can be filled when repainting though. Mechanically they are the same and can be moved from a 68 to 69 and visa versa. Like already mentioned the inner and outer plastic grills are different looking.
Be sure to get the bumper mounting brackets from the Hideaway bumper since it is cut with a hole that the mechanism travels thru..... the non-hideaway brackets do not have that hole. You can drill holes in the non-hideaway bracket if needed but it's a large hole and thick hardened frame steel. My 69 has a 68 hideaway setup on it but I decided to leave the hole for the arrow emblem in place since I liked the way it looked... |

The only differences that I've seen from 68-69 is the already mentioned Pontiac emblem on the top center & the grills.
The bumper to frame brackets are different from hideaway to exposed headlights set ups so be sure to get those when buying a conversion. The hideaway brackets are easy to spot because they are a 2 piece welded design as opposed to a single piece stamped bracket. If you can get the headlight switch, vacuum lines & canister with it you'll have it a lot easier doing the swap. |
