Default Second verse of National Anthem

The U.S. National Anthem is a song we know, right? No we don't, and it should be taught in it's entire form!
Look at this;

The National Anthem consists of four verses. On almost every occasion only the first verse is sung. There are 4 verses;

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out of of their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave'
From the terror of flight and the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Listen to this guy who only realized there was a second verse! Now imagine if we all knew all of it!!!

Excellent! I knew that our National Anthem was composed of several verses, but I have never heard them sung in their full glory, nor have I lately had the pleasure to see them printed for our proper consideration.

Thanks goquick!! Well done.

Very welcome everyone. This proves a very sad point, and that is we and our children are not taught even US History as it should be !!! We get the "short" version. No wonder kids go to colleges without a clue on what this Nation is really about and get mislead by anti American nutjob professors. Just reading the words, I actuly think he sung the 4th verse, but can you imagine someone singing it all?

One thing.. Did anyone catch he said "there is a second verse". Like he thought there were only 2. I'm sure he knew there were 4 because he knew that last one good enough to sing it from memory. I'd love to hear the whole thing from start to finish. I can't say that in 47 years, I have ever heard it sung all the way through.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention!

You really should be taught in school everything about our Flag, NATIONAL ANTHEM, AND OUR Constitution along with indepth study of The Federalist Papers. Think of the Federalist Papers as the clearification of the Founding Fathers intent and understanding of The Constitution as well as their firm beliefs of how it should be applied. I would also add to that ALL Founding Fathers known writings of the subjects be taught in school also. I think if you score less than 90 percent memorizing, you don't get to be a grad.

For some reason this is very interesting to me................

Why, Twooldgoats, did you feel compelled to say this belongs in the Clubhouse? Hey, it's certainly your right to ask it - not even hinting otherwise. But I'd really like to understand - seriously.
