MOJO,
Wish I had know you wanted one.....mine isn't for sale but a freind just sold his '61 Bristol Blue 4speed last weekend, only difference was his had a bench seat.

Our "New" 1964 Pontiac "PARISIENNE"
Good Day All,
Here are a few pix of the car that my wife's Dad bought brand new in 1964, the same year he died... This straight-6 (230 CID) 2-speed automatic CANADIAN Parisienne saw "active service" in 1975 & 76, when my wife used it to go to university---the rest of the time it essentially hibernated inside garages, under tarps & plywood (the last time it was on the road was in 1984, when it made it on its own power from the garage in one town, to a new one in another!). My brother-in-law passed away in April of this year, & we only just now got around to cleaning-out his garage---lo & behold, there was the Parisienne, all dirty & covered with stuff. We were going to sell it, but once we towed it outseide for a clean-up, both my wife & I were absolutely anmazed at its physical condition, & decided to keep it as a summer cruiser for ourselves, instead...in fact, we had it taken away on a flatbed at noon to-day to a friend of mine who also happens to be a mechanic...! My father's first brand new car was a '64 dark blue Parisienne---this ride sure does bring back a LOT of memories for me...we're both looking foward to hitting the open road with this Canadian old-timer! 1964 Pontiac "PARISIENNE"
Hi Guys,
Many thanks for all of the nice comments re. our "...barn find" at my deceased brother-in-law's garage, i.e. the 1964 Pontiac Parisienne... Looking at the various posted pix here of other full-sized AMERICAN Pontiacs, it becomes painfully obvious just how GM/Pontiac Motor Division short-changed the Canadian car buyer back-in-the-day: specifically, take a peek at how the wheels are so much deeper inset into the wheel-wells of our car, versus those rides that belong to our American friends... That's the famous "Pontiac Wide Track"---something that simply did NOT exist up here way-back-when, because our big-body Pontiacs were built atop Chevrolet frames & drivetrains. Ditto the engine options available for Canucks from that era: whereas US enthusiasts could option their Ponchos with 421 CID PONTIAC power plants, the biggest motor available to us was the Chevy 409---with a pair of Carter 4 barrel carbs. The base "B" body Pontiac in '64, as I recall, was called the "Strato Chief" model; it then went up to the "Laurentian", and was topped-off with the "Parisienne". The only time this kid ever saw a "Bonneville", or "Grand Prix" was during our summer family vacations visiting friends in Ohio & Michigan! I recall even then that there was something appealingly "different" about those US cars, and in hindsight I guess it was their wide track stance---something completely alien to The Great White North at the time. Oh well, so much for the history lesson on Canadian versus USA big body Pontiacs...! BTW, who amongst our American brethern reading this, can tell the world just exactly what a "Beaumont" was...? Canadian Pontiacs
Hi Tod,
I was unaware of that interest group/site---but I shall certainly look it up, with thanks... Speaking of Canuck cars, I just recalled the Acadian, too. I wonder how much influence the Canada-USA Auto Pact back-in-the-day had upon corporate decisions to do such things...? GM wasn't the only one of the Big Three to do that. Oh well, they were certainly different---a far cry from the ubiquitous/universal back-and-or-gray school of worn bars of soap design you see on the roads now... Thanks again, Eddy Ontario, CANADA |
