Default Custom Tire sizes

I was at the Tire Kingdom the other day getting an alignment and was telling the guy that I really needed some taller tires on the rear.

I'm running 26" tall 285/40x17s and would prefer to have 27" tires which is an option on 18" wheels but not really on the 17s.

So the guy at Tire Kingdom said I could have custom tires made but they are expensive at $250 to $300 each. In the scheme of things these prices are not that bad. Has anyone else gone this route?

I couldn't find much info on this topic either....I may try these Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial IIs as they come in a 295/45R17, 27.2" tall. I wonder how many miles they would be good?

Just called them and they said it would get you to the strip and back but the tread would ball up and come off from extended time on hot roads.

Looks like I need 18" wheels in the rear.

I have never heard of a "custom tire." As far as I know there isn't a tire manufacture that builds tires on a per customer baises.

I know out of the regular ET Streets you can expect 3-5k from a set.

What size wheel are you running in the back?

How about some 255/50/17 Diamond Back Redlines?

These are V rated Nittos - either the 450's or the 555's.
