Maybe someone can help me out...
I have a 01 Civic EX that keeps throwing the CEL. I get codes P0300-P0304 which are random misfires on all (4) cylinders. It initially throws a P0301, which is a misfire on cylinder 1. After a little more driving, the others codes are set. I have put in a new set of plugs. I also switched the coil packs around, but cylinder 1 always show up first. I have read numerous internet postings, but none of them can give a reasonble answer as to why this is occuring. I have read: coil packs, spark plugs, EGR valve, crank position sensor, knock sensor, no compression, bad injectors, bad head gasket, bad fuel pump, bad injectors, etc. This car does not a separate fuel filter, just a sock integrated with the fuel pump in the tank. The only diagnostic tools that I have are a code reader and a good multi meter. Can somenone tell me how to check the injectors with the multi meter? I guess I can get a loan a tool from Autozone to check the fuel pressure. This is the second time that the car has done this. When it did it prevously, I took it to the Honda dealer with the CEL on. They claimed that they couldn't get any codes out of it and charged me $80, but the CEL stayed off for about six months. I have had no other problems with this car (195 k miles) which I bought new. I don't want to pay the stealer to chase parts to fix this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill |

I would check the fuel pressure, if it's marginal it can give you random misfires. The fuel pressure can give it to you in a couple of ways. Low pressure or a leaking diaphragm. The first will go lean and the latter rich.
This is a generic answer, not specific to Honda Civics. But, it's a good place to start.

Rich,
Thanks for the response. I'll check the pressure and go from there. -Bill |
