1973 Ventura no title, out of state
I came across a 73 ventura in NJ. The car has not title and the owner is not the one who titled the car.
What can I do to get a title? PA notary told me a copy request has to be made by the person who owns the car. |

no title
watch out for that. While I lived in nj A guy I worked with got a basket case 70 chevelle and had no title. The guy he got it from said it was abandaned. Long story short he was 80% complete before he tried to get a title. Turns out the legal owner died 5 years prior and the family had been looking for the car. very very messy police, threats and lots of legal fees. Just want to pass that on try to save you from all the b.s.

Well my first advice is NEVER put money into a car before you get the title. That being said, I got titles on several cars in AZ.I don't know if NJ is the same. You get what is called a bond title. Basically the state checks its records for the last known owner. If they find one you have to send a certified letter requesting the title. They have 30 days to respond. If they send it to you, great you're done. If they don't respond you buy a bond for 2 percent of the value of the car and the state issues you a title. I don't know what happens if they respond and say give me my car. I haven't had that happen. I did this with a 62 Tempest, a 56 packard and my brother's 73 GTO, among others.
I also have a 73 ventura shell with a clear AZ title for sale...... Importsmasher |

Yeah, I figured it would be too far away for you (especially since it isn't a roller). But you wanted to hear success stories about getting titles for cars, and I couldn't resist putting it in there.....

Buddy just did one on a 41 Plymouth. A couple months, a title search [police search included], and around 200.00 later he has a clean title in hand and fresh plates on it.

Get the VIN and do a search through your local police. They can at least accomodate you and tell you if the car is stolen. Also there are title search companies that do a lean on the car, then "sell" it to you for 200 bucks or so. The price goes up as the years do though. Bikes are 75 bucks. I'll try to get the name of the business that does this.
