Can the cam be changed with the engine in a 68 bird or does it make more sense to pull the motor verses the amount of work to remove front end parts.
Can anyone speak from experience? |

I was able to do a cam swap in my '68 with the motor in the car. You need to pull the radiator to make room for the cam going in and out but thats not a big deal at all. It was close but there is enough room to do this.

i just did a Melling spc-7 (068) cam swap in my 68 bird and yes 'the rad has
to come out to give clearance for cam removal. took 5 hours total and my back was sore by the time we fired it up. use good breakin lube and enjoy!!!!!

Great, thanks for the input.
My brother put one in his 76 T/A and nearly had to tear the whole front end apart to get his in.. |

The trick for the 76 Bird is to loosen/disconnect the center upright support that holds the hood release.
It will back off enough to pull the cam.

If I remember right pulling motor mount bolts and jacking the motor up will help too.

Take out the hood latch support as well.
