Default Removing the coils

I'm disassembling a rolling frame and am at the point where I need to remove the front coils.

I'm not keeping these and would like to simply torch them to release the tension, then unbolt the sucker.

My question is. what kind of torch can I use? I don't have a cutting torch handy. Can I use any type of hand torch to heat them up enough?

While I'm at it, do the rear coils present as much of a hazard or no? Thanks in advance for any help!

Mike
