I have to agree with Mike on this one.

But I do hate seeing TA 6.6 on any 77-81 TA shaker (that didn't come with it).

Just another one of those things where people may wonder whether it's correct or not, because it's such a popular add-on.

The sway bar deal; DeLorean didn't like a rear sway bar because he felt it affected ride quality. When he left Pontiac in 1969, Pontiac adopted rear sway bars for their 1970 models. Oldsmobile used a rear sway on all their 442's, and from 1964-1969, they could always out handle a GTO.
I for one would NEVER say mine is nuts and bolts restored...dont even call it restored....its a running resto , done 'my way'...and not even a 400 clone , but a car that "now is a 400 , but was born a 350"....one of MY pet peeves is owners mis representing their cars....

Enduro instead of Endura....I know that is close, but not close enough!

Apparently, my old 69 Firebird missed out on one of those rare "Enduro" noses...according to the ads I've seen over the years. There are two strikes on the one item. No Endura/Enduro on 69 Firebirds.

Oh, and now that I think about it, GTO stickers on a 70 Le Mans with a painted chrome bumper advertised as a GTO, or GTO Tribute.

>I was pointing out my Buick rims and the spoilers as he was looking at my car....my 'add ons' being non Pontiac...he said they found out that the spoilers really worked in the wind tunnels...they gave the better down force , but he never mentioned it being a Pontiac design....neither did he say it was Chevy design.<

Think about it...

Brid = nose or beak.

Bird = wing or tail.

Camaro = corporate monkey business

How about the missuse of the word "restoration" in general. Restoration would indicate that something (a car in our case) was rebuilt to the way it was when new. Therefore, a 70 GTO claiming to be "restored" yet sits on 20" ghetto rims would be incorrectly described as "restored".

The other thing that cracks me up is when you see someone looking for NOS/correct valve stem caps for their "restored" car, yet they have an MSD box screwed to the inner fender/firewall with drywall screws. Or, they will have a big ole red top battery under the hood and they are searching for the correct knobs for their radio.

"Corvette" or Chevy master cylinders on late 60's GTO's.

Restored cars with rattle canned engines where they didn't remove the brackets before painting.

well, it COULD have happened...acc to Bill Porter he first designed it that way, but it got 'cut' by upper mgmt for costs....it was supposed to be a one piece nose, they redesigned it with the cut V filler piece and headlight surrounds....wish Bill had persevered! lol

Buick style Rally rims with Snap on Pontiac "PMD" emblems in the middle on any Pontiac.

It's as if people don't realize that each division had their own style wheels. Pontiacs should have the Rallye II Rims on them, not the Buick ones.

VS.

It's not hard to tell the difference!

Yep, I wish BP had got that one through too Bjorn!
Have a look at the original AF/VK 69 Firebird ads...Art "smoothed" the nose. That looks a LOT better, that black rubber piece between the guard and headlight surround is uuugly.

A couple more Mike.

Red PMD Rally II centre caps on pre mid 1970 cars....more specifically 1969 and earlier cars.

Red Rally II Lug Nuts.

In regards to the infamous Buick decal, I wonder how many have been sold?
Would it be more acceptable if it was styled after the 455 HO decal perhaps?

In 1971 , when I bought my first GTO,( a 1967 conv.with his and hers shifter). I immediately started to personalize it as soon as I had money in my pocket. I was 18 and the only kid in the neighorhood with a Pontiac. Things like:
Adding a rear sway bar.
Stiffer springs to get the ass up. (Most kids used air shocks)
Put in a stereo radio/ cassette player
Sent out under the hood parts to get chromed. (you would die if you knew how cheap it was back then)
Could not afford Hurst wheels, so Crager slotted wheels went on.
I can't remember anything else, But my point is , I still do the same with my car today.
If I like it ,I am going to do it. I do keep everthing Pontiac, and try to avoid aftermarket stuff, .well except for my Hurst wheels...

When I go to a show that is why I enter it in MODIFIED class. I still get people telling me how incorrect my car is. It really irritates me,.as if I didn't know . I probably know more about Pontiacs than most of them put together.

Having the front seats bolted ON TOP of the carpet, instead of having the carpet slit and covering the seat bolts.

Some things that just make me wonder..

a very nice stock appearing vehicle with a Grant or some other oddball steering wheel.

a 65 GTO with the front seats assembled with the patterns not matching the back seat.

Flex hose used for upper radiator hose

red heater hoses

wiper refills with the black plastic holders

fuzzy dice hanging from a mirror (I never got this one... does this attract hot chicks?)

a nicely restored and cleaned interior, but the pedals are still dirty.

dice as valve stem caps.

a stock coil, with the correct bracket, but bolted to the firewall.

yellow spark plug wires on a otherwise stock appearing motor.

stock motor... with random items replaced with pep boys chrome parts.

my list could go on and on.

1968 GTOs done up as Judges always bothered me. I've seen a few over the years and one guy actually thought his was real, said it was an very early built car.

See, now here's one of those things that depends on the car...every '61 I've ever owned came from the factory with the seats bolted on top of the carpet.

A lot of things have been mentioned that don't bother me (rear sway bars, different wheels, etc.) as long as the owner doesn't try to claim they're original. Part of the whole old car hobby is personalizing your car to suit your own tastes. I kind of like what some of the magazines have been referring to lately as a "Day 2" car - it's like what most people did with their cars back when they bought them new. The day after they brought it home from the dealer, they'd put on some mag wheels or some chrome engine parts or an eight track tape player, or whatever they wanted to do.

Years ago, there was a guy running around Naples with a '72 GTO Convertible. He thought it was real. It was actually a pretty nice car.

I don't really have any car peeves. But those creepy crybaby dolls at all the shows freak me out.
I could say my one peeve would be every Lemans owner seems to be making their car into a GTO.

I also don't care for:
Buick style 400-4, 455-4 air cleaner decals, especially the Ram Air ones on early GTO's
Painted rear bumpers
Hurst T-handles on Dual gate shifters
Engines and engine compartments painted black, including master cylinders, lids, etc
Missing rocker chrome
Cloned Judges with stripes/emblems in the wrong place. Look at a picture people
Die cast emblems in the wrong place, too high, too low
Hood tachs in the wrong spot, too close to the center, etc
Ghetto style 22" rims on a classic car
Exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels
Consoles that have been hacked for gauges, a tach,
A-pillars that have gauges, tachs, shift lights, on them
Hood pins and bondo'ed or riveted on hood scoops
Digital gauges/tachs hacked into a dash to fill a missing gauge pod
RACING STRIPES ON PONTIACS!!! Unless it's a Judge or 69 TA, it doesn't belong there!
Mega shifters on top of an original auto console
'Fear This' stickers

These are all great, thank you guys.

And again, anyone can personalize their car how they want (heck, I did too), but it's the high priced Pontiacs that are sold for big dollars at auctions, and the ad state they're all "correct" when there's an obvious snafu, like Rally II's on a 65 GTO.

We've probably all heard people on cruise nights ask, "Is that right? Did they make them like that?" So this is just a list of the more obvious things that we see REPEATEDLY at shows and cruise nights. Hell, I've done that too with makes I'm not familiar with, like 71-up Mopars, wondering if the engine I'm looking at is factory or transplanted.

And I'll throw another one it: black hood scoop inserts on 67-69 Birds, or 68-72 non-Judge GTO's. Nothing wrong with that (I personally like them), just not something the factory did.
