How about 8-lugs on a '65 GTO?
I saw that years ago, and didn't know any better. Thought it looked pretty cool, though. |

What about "dealer installed" options on restored cars? Any for or against those?

I don't know about the dealer installed stuff unless you have the paperwork to back it up. Otherwise "you are your own dealer" and can add whatever you want it would seem.

I think my teacher talked about when he had a GTO he added 8-lugs to it. I wonder what a '68 would look like with them on though...

Trans Am splitters on '64-'65 GTO's. Consoles with a tach and a vacuum guage mounted on them. Stainless trim around pedals on cars without power brakes. Spare tires mounted in trunk upside down. Spatter painted trunks on '64 GTO's. Humps on '64,'65, and '66 valve covers reversed. Negative battery cables bolted to the front of the cylinder head. Magazine features that include a nice interior shot, but nobody took the time to center the steering wheel. Based on the number of errors I see in some of the major suppliers catalogs, it is not surprising that many people wind up with incorrect stuff on their cars by taking it on faith that the catalog must be right.

Engines in stock restored Pontiacs painted the wrong color for the year.
Show cars displayed with too many stuffed animals or dolls.

Hood scoop inserts on at least the 65-67 GTO's not painted black in the center grilles/fake openings. Can't tell you how many otherwise nice cars I've seen are body color on the entire scoop insert. That really looks like crap, too. Just as bad as an all-black scoop insert.

This guy puts a beautiful red 73 TA in our car clubs show.It was advertised as a SD 455,complete with hood ID,correct components
and A/C. I was looking it over when my oldest son,who was then about 11,came walking up to me and the owner, and proudly announced to everyone within 50 ft that the car wasnt a true SD because it didnt have an X in the VIN.I was pretty embarrassed for the guy,who then opened up to the fact that it was indeed a base TA. I told him I would be proud to have it in my garage and he had done a wonderful job.He then took the for sale sign out and left shortly thereafter.

Maybe they did that to distract from the drab Army green color of car.

You guys. There are a number of changes on my car I like, to include a 455-4V air cleaner decal. I don't really care what others think. "Correct?" Please.

Remember, everyone here says if you do your car your way, everything on this list is fine. It's when you say "correct" or "nut and bolt" that these peeves come into play.
Here's one - body color engine compartment.

This thread has gotten pretty uptight as far as stuff goes. Personally I'm just happy to see a Pontiac at a show. I understand where some of you are coming from. If you are going to call something "concours", "correct", or otherwise, you have a pretty high expectation to fill. I don't think Chevy guys care as much it seems.
I still don't understand why having a rear sway bar on a pre-70 car would be bad unless the car was meant to be correct. If Delorean said that no GTO should have a 4-bbl carb, they all should have Rochester 2-jets, would there still be complaints if someone threw a 4-bbl on? |

"clones" - "tributes" or whatever you want to call them.... If you have a Lemans or a Tempest... add the GTO hood, grilles or whatever... but please don't put GTO emblems on it... regular Firebirds with a chicken on the hood looks way out of place IMO.... '70-'72 Chevelles with a sweep dash and SS emblems are the worse... Why make it out to be something that its not??? Fantasyland???
